Racing Live -  Uttoxeter 30th April 2011

18:05 That's it from Uttoxeter and a rather controversial end to the afternoon.

Tomorrow we will be at Newmarket for the 1,000 guineas, until then good afternoon.

18:04 There are a still a few disgruntled racegoers hanging around outside the weighing room with a couple of heavies guarding the entrance.

18:01 News from the Stewards, no immediate ban - matter referred to the BHA as it is his second offence in 12 months

17:53 Well a controversial finish to the final race as Peter Carberry produces Monty’s Moon to hit the front with what looked like a perfectly timed run, only to stop riding short of the line.

The consensus here is he mistook a course marker for the finishing post, allowing Some Catch and Millers Dawn to pass him to fill the first two places . . . . not helped by the fact that Carberry was riding the favourite.

Some Catch had made all before being headed by Monty’s Moon inside the final furlong.

Needless to say Peter Carberry is gutted and the trainers husband, Andy Hobbs, was philosophical saying these things happen.

17:20 We conclude with the 12 runner, extended 2m 6f, Get Live Football Stats At totesport.com Novices’ Handicap Hurdle.

Solway Dornal is very much on his toes , making his handler earn their wages.  Carbon Print is slightly on his toes and Upper Deck was pulling slightly. Crack At Dawn is early to post.

17:09 Overlaw makes all to take the Handicap Chase with Red Jester, once again, having to settle for second spot.

The only time Overlaw ever looked like being beaten was approaching two out when Red Jester came with a challenge but he was soon under pressure and Overlaw pulled clear to come home a comfortable five length winner.

Mischief Man was a further nine lengths back in third.

16:49 Our final race over the larger obstacles is the Bet On Today’s Football At totesport.com Handicap Chase over two miles with four going to post.

No clues at all in the parade ring with all four runners looking to be much of a muchness.

16:39 Dramatic closing stages as Jacko’s Boy who had set the pace for nearly all the contest was quickly pulled up and dismounted approaching two out. It had looked as though he may had broken down but he was walked back looking nothing more than a little bit sore.

Whether he would have won was a moot point as the top weight Cobbler’s Queen came late and fast and the winning distance was 14 lengths, with See You Jack coming home second.

Solway Ally was third a further 20 lengths back with Nicky Tam, who was vying for the lead for the first two miles, coming home in his own time.

16:18 Next is Bet totepool On 0800 221 221 Novices’ Handicap Chase over three miles with just five taking their chance.

Looking at the runners in the parade ring you would be excused for thinking this is a hurdle. The only one looking like a chaser is Jacko’s Boy but he was really misbehaving in the parade ring. Alternating between planting and being on his toes. See You Jack is another on his toes.

16:01 Olympian was a runner-up at Towcester 12 days ago but he went one better here, coming with a late run to claim a 4½ length victory, having been settled in rear for most of the contest.

Rampant Ronnie set the pace, to the delight of Tommo, but he peaked too soon (the horse that is not Tommo) and eventually came home a virtually pulled-up last.

Lean Burn moved into the lead as they turned for home but his effort burned out and he only finished third.

Spirit Leader looked to be the winner before Olympian’s charge and the pair did make contact crossing the last, but he had nothing in response to Olympian’s late spurt.

15:45 The Bet totepool at totesport.com Handicap Hurdle is next, with seven going to the start for the two mile contest.

15:34 After that stunning display by Frankel this was definitely a case of after the Lord Mayor’s Show.

Home She Goes took the spoils, having been settled behind the leaders and hitting the front two out.

Tisfreetdream and Kilvergan Boy battled for second spot but were both tired as they crossed the line.

Last years winner, Gunship, was prominent but faded in the home straight.

15:07 Our first chase is the 2m 5f Bet On The Guineas At totesport.com Handicap Chase, with 12 facing the starter.

Kap West is pulling, Here She Goes is a head shaker, Tisfreetdream is on his toes. Sumner is getting warm. Kilvergan Boy looks an absolute treat.

14:52 King Of Dubai makes all to take the depleted contest, never looking to be in any danger at all.

Troubletimestwo, who was sent off the favourite, let the chasing group, along with Devon Native.

The latter faded late on whilst the former came home third, having been headed by Points Of View approaching two out.

In contrast to the winner, the runner-up had been settled in rear before making progress as they turned for home.

14:35 The Bet On totescoop6 At totesport.com Handicap Hurdle over the extended 2m 6f is next with, now six going to post.

Prince Of Denial and Pipe Banner have both been withdrawn, the latter was in the parade ring at the time.
The going is now Good to Firm, Firm in Places on the hurdle course

14:18 One for the punters as the favourite, Brunston, obliges although he had to battle hard with the second favourite Cygnet, who made him fight all the way to the line.

The front two were settled towards the front of the main pack who let the free running Behindcloseddoors make his own pace.

By the time they turned for home the front-runner had come back to his field and Brunston swept past Behtarini to take up the running but Cygnet was determined to go with him and the pair soon pulled well clear.

Brunston always looked to be going the better of the pair and came home three parts of a length clear.

The third placed horse, Fintan, did the layers a few favours coming home at 100/1, nine lengths in arrears, whilst Behtarini finished fourth.

14:00 Behindcloseddooors and Cygnet keen to post, Fintan pulling very hard. Gallox Bridge is very keen

13:57 Unlucky for some as 13 go to post for our opener, the Bet On toteplacepot At totesport.com Maiden Hurdle, over two miles.

Mojerr and Quick Tap are both very diminutive horses, they are almost pony like. Cygnet is getting a little warm. Fintan has two handlers and pulling. Behtarini and Smooth Sovereign were both pulling slightly, Gallox Bridge a little harder.

13:17 Well they will not need any hoofbeat sound effects this afternoon, ground will definitely rattle underfoot, there is a decent grass covering

12:31 Good afternoon from Uttoxeter whereit is sunny but there is a brisk breeze behind the runners in the home straight. We have a funfair in the centre of the course so the far side obstacles cannot be seen and Tommo commentating

08:18 It has been a dry night and a dry day is forecast. The official going is Good to Firm, Good in Places on the chase course and good to firm on the hurdle course, with going stick readings of Chase - 6.5 and Hurdle - 7.7 on Saturday at 06:45.

The open ditch is being omitted in all chases (the take off being levelled), the hurdles on the inside and there are divided bends.

There is currently one non-runner.
