Racing Live -  Nottingham 6th April 2011

17:34 That’s it from a sunny Nottingham where there was proof you don’t need artificially watered courses to produce some decent, exciting, racing.

Not sure where the next live coverage will be, from Nottingham a very good afternoon.

17:30 The money spoke in the final race as Buzz Law was backed into favouritism against a weak Pivot Bridge and the pair came home in that order, separated by half a length.

Aloneinthestreet set the pace in the manner of a Johnson horse, with Pivot Bridge in pursuit and Buzz Law settled, or should that be unsettled in rear.

Turning for home Aloneinthestreet weakened and after some jostling for position Pivot Bridge hit the front ahead of Sir Randolf.

Hawk Moth made some progress but looked ragged.

A furlong out Andrew Eliott produced Buzz Law with his challenge (he jinked briefly two out)and battle was joined. In the end it was no match as Pivot Bridge was under strong driving, whilst Buzz Law s being ridden hands and heels.

Sir Randolf came home third with Hawk Moth fourth and Aloneinthestreet came home in his own time.

17:09 Another race with half the field missing as just five line up for the finale, the Bet On The Masters At totesport.com Handicap, another mile contest.

Sir Randolf is pulling and is something of a head shaker. Pivot Bridge looked nice but is starting to get a bit warm.

16:59 Well another close finish as Mr Chocolate Drop comes late to deny the favourite Border Owl in the dying strides to claim a neck victory.

The pair had been keeping each other company for most of the contest, settled behind the front running duo of Mutamaleq and Bishopbriggs.

The pair were separated as Frankie Dettori took the favourite to the front just after the three furlong marker.

Mr Chocolate Drop was happy to give the favourite a lead and by a furlong out he was in pursuit of the favourite. It wasn’t a spectacular challenge but it was effective under Jimmy Quinn as he ground into Border Owls lead, passing him close to home.

Cathy Gannon had a good shot at a quickfire double as she produced Jasmin Rai with a rattling finish to get within half a length of the front pair.

16:45 A very depleted field, as eight of the 16 entered are non-runners, although I think commentator Darren Owen is not complaining.

This is the one mile Bet On Live Golf at totesport.com Handicap.

Those that remain do not really inspire.

16:31 Well I spoke too soon as racegoers are treated to another thrilling finish as Amistress under Catherine Gannon just gets the better of the favourite Standout under Ryan Moore in a nodding finish.

They ran differing races tactically with Amistress settled just behind the front running Johnston pair of Smart Step and Colebrooke, Standout by contrast was settled towards the rear for a late run.

Colebrooke briefly led before being headed by Amistress, who looked to be going best of all. It was then Moore came with his run on the favourite, looking like a decisive run but Amistress was not going to go down without a fight and she’ literally, held on by a flared nostril to win by the shortest of distances.

Colebrooke came home third, three lengths behind the front duo, with Anton Dolin coming home fourth.

16:15 Race five is the Get Live Football Stats At totesport.com Handicap, a 1¼ mile contest with ten going to post.

Bobby Dazzler is a head shaker and is getting a little warm. Deep Applause is slightly on his toes.

Royal Reason is nice and relaxed and no surprised Mark Johnston’s Colebrooke looks ready and must be the paddock pick.

16:05 It may be our longest race of the afternoon but it produced the best finish of the afternoon and probably this flat season so far.

Once the pace settled Akmal with his big white face set the pace, with Apprimus in pursuit.

The favourite, Free Agent, was settled in rear poised to make a late challenge, which he duly did.

Askar Tau was the first to challenge Akmal but Ryan Moore moved Free Agent to the centre of the course to make his run.

Askar Tau hit the front but was headed by Free Agent about 50 yards from the line and he looked home and hosed.

However Hayley Turner had other ideas and she produced The Betchworth Kid even later, running on fast to lead in the final stride . . . a perfectly times run.

15:45 Free Agent was a bit free to post though

15:40 After three sprints we go to the other extreme now with the 1m 6f totesport.com Further Flight Stakes, a Listed contest with six going to post.

Akmal is swishing his tail and Apprimus was fly-kicking in the pre-parade ring.

Askar Tau was getting a little feisty as well.

The two best lookers are Peppertree Lane, coming here off a 482 day break, and Free Agent, who is the paddock pick.

15:37 That win on Pineapple Pete was Ryan Tate’s first winner, well done Ryan.

15:29 It’s nice when your paddock pick obliges and the outsider of the field, Pineapple Pete, came late down the centre of the course to record a half-length victory.

Covered up for most of the race Ryan Tate moved the winner out to the centre of the course and when he had daylight he picked off his rivals.

Indian Shuffle, hugging the stands rail under Kieren Fallon, attempted to make all and it was only in the dying strides he ceded the lead.

The favourite Perfect Pastime, under Adam Kirby, was in second for most of the contest. He was another moved out for an effort but when asked he could not deliver and had to settle for second spot.

15:11 Race three is another five furlong sprint, the Bet On Tonight’s Football at totesport.com Handicap.

Just six of the original nine runners go to post.

Moremaloke went to post very early so did not get to see him in the parade ring. The five I did see all looked good, Empress Royal was jig-jogging a bit and the narrow pick was Pineapple Pete.

14:57 A brilliant tactical ride by Michael O’Connell as he produces Iver Bridge Lad with a well timed run to take the spoils by two lengths, having been held up and threading his way through the field. The winner going one better than his second as Doncaster on Saturday.

It was a case of all change at the end as early pace setters Star Rover and Captain Dunne both capitulated to running on horses, with Secret Asset the first to go for home but having to settle for second.

Face The Problem was another running on late, coming from almost last to take third spot, with Five Star Junior back in third.

14:46 The Free Racing Post Form At totesport.com Conditions Stakes, another five furlong contest, is next and the only contest this afternoon with no non-runners.

Five Star Junior is very much on his toes and swishing his tail. Secret Asset was on his toes and was mounted on the course.

Judd Street was pulling and, by contrast, Face The Problem was very relaxed. Corporal Maddox also caught the eye.

13:30 Despite doing his best to throw the race away by hanging markedly left in the closing stages the newcomer The Penny Horse was still good enough to take this moderate contest.

Drawn nearest to the stand rail he finished the race almost against the far rail. He was quite green for most of the contest and is bound to have learned from the run and could be one to watch in future, although it is likely he will not be going off at today’s odds of 12/1 next time.

The two with experience, Choice Of Remark and the favourite Triggerlo came home second and third, both being prominenet. The drifting of the winner allowed Choice Of Remark to get back within a head of the winner.

Lone Star State was just as unimpressive in the race as he was in the parade ring.

14:16 Lone Stat State very keep to post. Choice Of Remark not keen to go down.

14:11 Our opening contest is the EBF Bet On toteplacepot at totesport.com Novice Stakes, a 5f contest with seven facing the starter.

Choisirez, the pick of the David Evans duo, carries 1lb overweight. Choice of Remark is a little on his toes.

Lone Star Star is very much on his toes and rearing and is being a real handful for his handler.

Triggerlo is getting a little warm.

13:21 The flood of non-runners seems to have come down to a trickle now.

13:18 I have just had a chat with Sulekha Varma, the Clerk Of The Course, who tells me the problem with the ground on the inner course is due to a technical problem with the watering system.

The switch to the outer course has not been straightforward and it has been a rush to get everything ready, with teams from Warwick and Market Rasen having been bought it to get everything ready.

12:31 Good afternoon from a sunny Nottingham, where the non-runner count is now 20

10:18 17 non-runners now, 14 due to the going

09:48 Make that 13

09:41 As expected the non-runner count is rocketing, we now have a dozen non-runners.

07:57 I expect we will be seeing a few more non-runners as the morning progresses, keep checking on the right for the latest.

07:42 A large area of false ground has been found on the straight of the inner course because of this, all today's races will now be run on the outer course.

The outer course has not been watered therefore the official going is Firm, Good to Firm in Places.

A dry day is forecast.

We already have a couple of going related withdrawals, details on the right.
