11:47 Good morning from Market Rasen where it is currently sunny, although there are some grey clouds on the horizon, and the temperature is a pleasant 5 degrees.

We have one non-runner at the moment with Seven Stars out of the 15:00 with a bout of colic. No surprise but the 15:00 was the 16 runner handicap so now 15 runners and only 1-2-3 a place.

12:00 Well  the grey cloud has reached the course and luckily it is falling as rain.

Hopefully only a shower.

12:13 The rain has stopped and it is sunny again …. looks like it is going to be one of those afternoons.

13:07 We have our first runner in the parade ring, 25 mins before the first race and the early arrival is Veronicas Boy.

13:19 The opening contest is the 2m 1f RacingUK.com Juvenile Novices’ Hurdle with ten going to post.

13:24 Blue Nymph, typically our selection, is a bit keen to post

13:29 McCoy's mount Open Day being well backed

13:48 Well AP McCoy was seen at his imperious best in our opening contest.

Jumping the last in fifth place and looking well beaten he powered up the run-in as if he had a rocket up his backside to record a 2½ length victory over the front running Veronicas Boy who looked as though he had done enough to see off all comers.

Veronicas Boy made his intentions clear from flag fall setting off in front and not seeing another rival until the final 50 yards.

Open Day settled in second place but as they turned for home he was dropping back and looking well beaten.

The favourite, Blue Nymph, settled in third place but was another looking well beaten turning for home.

Park Lane was with the pace throughout and looked the biggest threat to the leader as they approached two out.

Having said that Veronicas Boy was still a good few lengths clear between the final two, whilst Blue Nymph rallied briefly to head Park Lane for second spot. There were a couple of lengths back to Astracad, with Open Day ten lengths behind the leading group.

As they jumped the last some canny in-running punters backed Open Day at 1,000/1.

Even half way up the run-in Veronicas Boy looked home an hosed but that was before McCoy launched his amazing challenge and the rest, as they say, is history.

A brilliant ride from the 14 times champion jockey.

13:50 A dozen line up for our second contest, the 2m 3f EBF National Hunt Novices’ Hurdle (Qualifier).

13:57 They’re going down for the second.

A couple were on their toes in the parade ring but nothing too serious.

Bygones Of Brid was a little reluctant going onto the course but once out went down OK.

14:16 Well there was nothing to match McCoy’s epic ride in the opener but a good finish nonetheless with the Henderson bandwagon rolling on as Ranjobaie takes the second for favourite backers.

The 3½ length winning distance does not tell the full story as coming to the last the winner and Bygones Of Brid, who had virtually made all, were neck and neck. However the latter made a slight mistake, which was enough to allow the jolly to take a lead.

Bygones Of Brid did not go down without a fight but the Henderson runner was running on well enough to claim the prize.

Ballybriggan  took third spot, taking advantage of a jumping error by Proud Presence two out.

Rey Nacarado made some eye-catching progress down the far side but the effort was short lived and he was soon in reverse.

Musical Wedge and Teenage Kicks were both to the fore in the early stages. The former droped out badly and was well tailed off by three out. The latter stayed in contention a while longer but found reverse gear turning for home.

14:19 Only five line up for the opening chase the EBF / Thoroughbred Breeders Association Mares’ Novices’ Chase over the extended 2¾ miles.

14:29 It's raining again. No positives or negatives in the parade ring or going down. Not a viable betting contest with Over Sixty trading at 1/6.

14:48 Well not really much of a race as the 1/5 shot Over Sixty records a facile win a distance clear of her rivals.

Indeed her task was made even easier by the second and third in the market being out of the contest before they completed their first circuit.

Lady Bernie pulled up before the fifth fence and It’s A Discovery unseated at the seventh.

Indeed it looked as though Tom Siddall was thinking about pulling up Chief Lady Olwyn before It’s A Discovery’s unshipping but decided to continue for the prize money. Having said that he did finish in his own time.

Chicago Alley stuck with the favourite until half way down the back straight, until Wayne Hutchinson gave a shake of the reins and the contest was over.

The final mile was just a display of jumping for Over Sixty.

The official winning distance was a distance, translating the time it was 35 lengths with Chief Lady Olwyn a further 60 lengths behind the runner-up.

14:49 A going change, now Soft all round.

15:55 Our biggest field of the afternoon next with 14 going to the start for the BBC Lincolnshire Mike Molloy Memorial Novices’ Handicap Hurdle a 2m 5f contest.

14:57 Bled is very late into the parade ring – it really annoys me when they come in late as it does not give punters a chance to take a look at the horse properly before the race.

15:19 It looked as though we were going to be in for another thrilling finish in our fourth contest.

The grey Stick Together jumped the final flight a few lengths clear of Vivarni but Adam Pogson tried to do a McCoy on Vivarni.

He was closing on Stick Together on the very long run-in the line came in time for Stick Together who held on by a slowly diminishing 2½ lengths.

The front pair were well clear of third placed Pingaro De La Vire.

Stick Together hit the front as they turned for home, passing What’s Occurrin who had led from flag fall and quickly tired in the home straight.

The same can be said of Lennox Gardens who was in second spot for most of the contest.

15:24 Race five is the Eric and Lucy Papworth Handicap Chase over the extended 2m 6f in which nine line up.

A weight notice, Donald Will Do carries 1lb overweight.

15:26 Mocho is a little bit on his toes going to the start. It has just been observed there are no British bred runners in this race. We have six Irish, two French and one US.

15:51 No panic or adrenalin rush in the fifth race as Omix D’Or came home six lengths clear of top weight Carrickmines with the outsider Furze Hill taking third from the favourite Mocho.

Furze Hill led for most of the contest although both Mocho and Donald Will Do were both with the pace.

Three out Omix D’Or, Carrickmines and Mocho jumped upsides, however Omix D’Or skewed left and interfered with both his rivals, with Mocho coming off worse of all.

As they came down the home straight Omix D’Or had the advantage and was pulling clear with his almost one stone advantage over Carrickmines.

15:54 Race six is the second Hunters' Chase of 2010 or to give it it’s proper name the Beaumontcote Maiden Hunters’ Chase a 3m 1f contest.

Eleven face the starter.

16:19 A good Hunters Chase and it would be interesting to see the in-running betting as, three out it looked as though We’re Confused was going to take the race having come from virtually last to challenge the front running Pristine Condition.

However Pristine Condition was going to have none of it and having a rival upsides seemed to galvanise Pristine Condition as he once again ran on and never looked to be in any danger.

We’re Confused did hold on for second spot, 3½ lengths behind the winner and the front pair came home twelve clear of third placed The Pipers Son, who was doing his best in the closing stages.

16:23 Just the bumper left, this afternoon seems to have flown by.

Eleven line up for the Racing UK Standard NH Flat Race for conditional jockeys and amateur riders, a 2m 1f contest.

16:49 Well the final contest may well have been a conditionals and amateurs contest but Jake Greenall clearly has the philosophy “anything McCoy can do, I can do as well.”

Arguably he did even better than McCoy as he seemingly came from absolutely nowhere to charge up the run in passing goodness knows how many rivals to record an almost impossible ¾ length victory on Henry Daly’s newcomer.

Until this Pegasus flight it looked as though it would be a victory for favourite backers as Malcolm Jefferson’s Mac Aeda, under James Halliday, looked booked for victory, having seemingly got the better of a battle with Aviador.

The last named had made eye catching late progress to enter the fray and Haliday had to work hard to hold off the challenge .

Strongbows Legend’s race did not last long as he ran outside the wings of where the first hurdle would have been and in doing so was deemed to have run out.
Faran Height was pulled up down the back straight.

Second favourite Bless The Wings  was thereabouts turning for home and had every chance if good enough, but at the end of the day he was not good enough.

16:53 Well that’s it from a chilly Lincolnshire where the highlights must be the finishes of Tony McCoy and Jake Greenall in the opening and closing contests.

There wasn’t much to savour in-between although it would be churlish to pee on Over Sixty’s parade – she beat nothing but still looks to be a decent prospect.

Some housekeeping from the fourth race. Daryl Jacob picked up a one day whip ban for his ride on What's Occurrin and James Halliday picked up a caution for his whip use on Stick Together in the same contest.

Luckily the forecast sleet and snow has not materialised now my fingers are crossed I can avoid it on the 120 mile drive home.

From a chilly Market Rasen good evening.
