07:28 There has been 1mm of rain overnight and the going is Good, Good to Firm in places, with a going stick reading of Chase 6.3 and Hurdle 7.2 13:53 I would not recommend coming to Haydock from Milton Keynes by train, anyway I have finally arrived at Haydock and a pleasant afternoon weather wise, very slight cross wind left to right in home straight. 14:20 The opening contest is the Taylormade Betting Juvenile Hurdle over two miles with nine off to post. Royal Bonsai was pulling slightly, Next Edition was slightly on his toes and Revolutionary was revolving his tail quite a bit. Another For Joe looked nice. 14:30 A race where it was all change in the closing stages. Another For Joe, Unknown Rebel (sent off the favourite) and Philharmonic Hall set the early pace, although Unknown Rebel gave away a lot of ground as he went wide coming out of the home straight, giving the impression he wanted to head back to the stables. This left Another For Joe and Philharmonic Hall in front with Unknown Rebel leading the chasing bunch a few lengths behind. The leading duo still had the advantage turning for home, albeit leading a packing field. Another For Joe was the first to crack and was soon in reverse. Philharmonic Hall only had the lead to himself for a short time as both Royal Bonsai and the well backed Luggers Hall ran on to take up the running after two out. They jumped the last together but Royal Bonsai came away from the flight best of all and ran on to record a five length victory. Luggers Hall held on for second by a neck from a fighting back Philharmonic Hall. Unknown Rebel had to settle for fourth. 14:50 Our first chase is the Gerard & Alurie O'Sullivan 30th Wedding Anniversary Handicap Chase with a dozen off to post for the 2m 4f contest. Sacre Toi and Brother Bob are both quite small for chasers, Red Rouble was pulling. Daldini was getting a little bit warm and Persian Prince was on his toes. Both Word Of Warning and Border River were well relaxed. 15:00 This was quite a competitive handicap with three in with a chance as they cleared the last. Daldini led for most of the contest and was one of the three in contention at the last. The other pair were Work Boy and It's Like That. It was Work Boy who had the advantage at the last, having taken up the running as they lined up for home. However Daldini was not going to go down without a battle and he rallied to get within three parts of a length of the winner Work Boy. It's Like That came late to finish third a length behind the runner-up. Border Reiver was prominent throughout and came home fourth. Sam Twiston-Davies race ended at the first when 15:21 Race three is the bet365 Novices' Hurdle with seven setting off to the two mile start. 15:35 This was effectively a two runner race in the closing stages between Pippa Green, who had set out to make all and Perpetually who was ridden patiently to be produced late. Perpetually made his final move approaching the last and jumped clear. However Pippa Green was not going to go down without a fight and fought back to get within three quarters of a length of Perpetually. The duo were well clear of Rosebay, who was 33 lengths further back in third, having passed Yahrab in the closing stages. 15:46 This afternoon seems to be flying by as we come to race four, the SNG Commercial Law Handicap Chase over three miles, with eleven off to post. 16:11 It is not very often a runner makes all in a three mile chase but Morning Moment did just that in this contest. He was harried by Spanish Cruise until the grey took a crashing fall at the tenth bringing down Shake The Barley (both horses and riders got up OK). Eyre Square and Dammam were both in contention in the closing stages but somehow Morning Moment managed to pull something out of the hat to come home 3½ lengths clear. Dammam was a further neck back in third. A bit of controversy for fourth as Peter Buchanan looked to stop riding Badger Foot and he lost fourth spot to Whiskey Ridge. 16:18 Shane Byrne and Johnathan England both get seven day bans for their whip use in the 14:50 plus England gets an extra four days for disobeying starter. 16:30 Race five is the two mile Betdaq Mobile App Novices' Handicap Chase with eight off to post. Kings Grey was quite keen in the parade ring, fighting his two handlers. Bhaltair was a head shaker. 16:40 A cracking finish to our final chase. Bhaltair and Up To The Mark jumped the last together, so together there was also a coming together. As they battled up the run in they also came close and John Kington was not helped by having his whip in the wrong hand. Bhaltair crossed the line a head clear but was allowed to keep the race. Up To The Mark, who had made all until being headed by Bhaltair, took second spot. The pair were fourteen lengths clear of third placed Tahiti Pearl. 16:52 Our final contest is the 2m 4f rewards4racing.com Handicap Hurdle with eight off to post. 17:12 That wasn't really a race as My Brother Sylvest makes all to win with consummate ease. The official winning distance of 4½ lengths does not tell the full story as he was heavily eased in the final stages. Dune Shine finished second, having been held up for most of the contest. Third spot went to Prophet de Guye who was a further 12 lengths in arrears. What's Occurring, who was with the winner for most of the contest, folded tamely in the closing stages to finish fourth. 17:17 That's it from Haydock where the afternoon has flown by, unlike the journey here or even the journey home. Tomorrow we are at Stratford, join us there.
