Racing Live - Bangor 15th December 2010

16:30 That’s it from Bangor where it has been a nightmare from a technical perspective. No wi-fi, no 3G signal and having to depend on a GPRS signal which is even slower than the old dial-up connections.

Anyway we have had some reasonable racing and a couple of decent finishes.

15:52 Avoca Promise came into this contest with the best form following a third at Ascot.

Having been settled towards the rear early on he made progress in the final ¾ of a mile to hit the front turning for home.

Once in front he was very green and it looked as though he was going to face a serious challenge from Raya Star, another who had been held up. However Raya Star had to carry an extra 7lbs for a win at Uttoxeter last March and that proved to be the difference and he was only able to get to within two lengths of Avoca Promise.

Knockalongi, who was with the pace throughout was a further 2¼ lengths back in third.

Blantyre broke free before the race yet was still allowed to take place in the race, needless to say he was never in the mix.

15:34 Blantyre has broken free

15:23 We finish with a bumper with the Vote AP McCoy In The SPOTY Intermediate Open NH Flat Race with 17 competing over 2m 1f.

Big paddock negative is Deciding Moment who is very much on his toes and fly kicking.

15:12 Sonic Anthem attempted to make all but had to cede the advantage turning for home as Nouailhas, who has been with the leader, hit the front and once ahead pulled clear to record a comfortable six length victory.

Indeed Vin Rose was so tired she was even headed for second place by Vin Rose who probably wasn’t accelerating but just passing a tired horse.

Present Your Case was in a challenging position three out but then came under pressure, only finishing in fourth place.

14:51 Our final race over obstacles is the 2m 1f Northern Racing Club 30th Anniversary Conditional Jockey’s Handicap Hurdle, with ten facing the starter.

Nothing of any note to report from the parade ring, if these sort of things worry you both Petit Fleur and Present Your Case are gnashing their teeth.

14:40 One of those races where we saw several leaders, although come the conclusion the field were well strung out.

Bellflower Boy headed a group of four a mile from home, with Silver Accord looking to be the biggest challenger. Of the other pair Galaxy Rock was looking all out and Sandsofthecolosseum was in reverse having shared the running with Beamazed in the first half of the contest.

Bellflower Boy and Silver Accord were line abreast two out but Bellflower Boy edged slightly ahead at the last.

Silver Accord battled back on the run-in but in the final 50 yards Bellflower Boy edged clear again to record a ¾ length victory.

Worth A King’s came home third a further 9 lengths in arrears.

14:16 Race five is the Alfa Aggregates Handicap Hurdle, a three mile contest with a dozen due to compete.

Beamazed is on his toes, Lean An Scail is pulling as, to a lesser extent, is Fin Vin de Leu.

14:07 Victory for the 15 times champ AP McCoy as Backspin becomes the fourth winning favourite or joint favourite of the afternoon.

Always with the pace, which was set by Our Mick, whilst the other joint favourite  High Benefit was prominent before falling at the fifth.

By the time it came to exit the back straight Our Mick and Backspin were well clear of their rivals, with Our Mick still having the advantage but the jolly looking to go the better of the pair.

However McCoy knew what he had under him and he hit the front approaching the last and came home three lengths clear.

Flinty Bay was an impressive third, running on well to get within half a length of the runner-up and should take a small race at some point in the future.

13:46 Some sad news after our last race, Gisland collapsed and died after crossing the line.

13:45 That’s the chases finished, now for the hurdle races and the first sees our biggest field of the afternoon, with 16 facing the starter for the 2m 1f Paramount Security “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle.

13:36 It may have been a 3m 6f slog but you could not have asked for a more exciting finish as the joint favourites Incentivise and Gisland battled to former getting the verdict by a head.

Shrewed Investor and September Moon were the early pacesetters, with Gisland tracking the duo.

Going out onto the final circuit the lead was shared by Shrewed Investor, Gisland and Fine By Me, although the latter was soon to drop out of contention.

By four out the race had taken its toll and the top two in the betting were well clear of their rivals.

Turning for home it was like watching a slow motion contest.

They crossed two out with Gisland having a slight advantage but Incentivise was looking the better of the pair.

Locked together at the last, Incentivise pulled away the better and it looked as though he had the race, however Gisland was not going to go down without a fight and he fought back, possibly even getting back in front close to the line.

However Incentivise was also a fighter and managed to get his head back in front where it mattered. A cracking finish after a marathon contest.

Ayemdee took third spot, nine lengths behind the front duo.

13:09 Race three is the bangorondeeraces.co.uk Handicap Chase with 11 due to compete over a marathon 3m 6f.

Pennek is very keen in the parade ring, almost trotting round. Silver Bay is slightly on his toes and Glebehall Bay is pulling.

12:57 Overlaw attempted to emulate the winner of the opener by making all but was only able to lead until they turned for home.

The going seemed to take it out of the runners as those who remained in the contest looked vaery tired turning for home, with any one of Douglas Julian, Walk Tall or One More Dinar being the winner.

Walk Tall was the first of the trio to fade making it a two horse race with the favourite Douglas Julian having a battle with the maiden One More Dinar.

The race was effectively decided at the last as the jolly fenced it well whilst One More Dinar blundered through the top losing any chance of victory, although having said that he did battle back on the run in to get within 1½ lengths of Douglas Julian.

Walk Tall came home a tired third 15 lengths in arrears.

Overlaw was the only other finisher.

12:37 Race two is the DTM Legal Handicap Chase, an extened 2m 4f contest with nine facing the starter.

The only comment of note in this second race is Pistol Basc who was a bit on his toes in the pre-parade ring.

Banthe last, nibbling the grass on landing and almost losing his footing he virtually stopped and Tom Scudamore did well to retain the partnership.

Luckily his lead was big enough for him to regain his momentum and take the spoils by 11 lengths.

Hollo Ladies came home second with Gilbarry a further five back in third spot.

Shadow Dancer was prominent in the early stages only to fade from half way.
