16:55 That's it from Yarmouth where the weather actually turned out to be a great deal kinder than it could have been.
A modest card and it will be a surprise if any of thsi afternoons runners become superstars outside their own stables.
Tomorrow should be different as we are on the Sussex Downs at Goodwood, until then a very good afternoon.
16:50 The final race was the longest of the afternoon over a an extended mile and a quarter.
Three defections reduced the field to seven and backers of the first two in the betting Lady Pilot and
Agente Romano could well have reasons to feel aggrieved as their respective jockeys Liam Jones and Seb Sanders both managed to find trouble.
Jones on Lady Pilot eventually managed to extricate himself but it was too late to challenge Al Azy, who was given a good tactical front run by up and coming Italian claimer Andrea Atzeni.
16:21 Another 1m 2f contest for our penultimate contest, this time a handicap.
The race provided another boost for favourite backers as Cwm Rhondda came home the most convincing winner of the afternoon so far.(Although commentator Derek Thompson’s pronunciation may have alienated any Welsh listeners)
Dancing Jest set off in front, tracked by Spares And Repairs and the favourite.
Two out, nine of the eleven runners were almost line abreast but Jack Mitchell asked the favourite for an effort as they passed the furlong marker and it was a case of race over.
Dancing Jest managed to find sufficient in the locker to come home second, whilst King Of Connacht was running on well to take third.
15:52 Off to the round course for our third contest, a 1¼ mile maiden stakes.
Dreamwalk was sent off the very well backed favourite, although backers may have been worried at the start as he needed a hefty shove to be steered towards the starting stalls.
Count On Guest set the early pace, leading until three out when Ed Dunlop’s Andhaar took up the running.
Seb Sanders on the favourite kept the new front runner in his sights, running on and taking up the running inside the final furlong.
Andhaar looked to be tiring in the final half furlong.
Third placed Daredevil Dan was actually an eyecatcher as he looked ill at ease on the going – certainly his action suggested he would prefer more give in the ground.
15:24 Up to a mile for race three and more drama at the start, this time as the well backed Trimbaa ducked out under the stalls. He was quickly caught but just as quickly withdrawn and led back home.
Derringbay took a very strong hold and soon had a commanding lead. Asakusa and Zepnove led the remainder at a more sensible pace.
Sure enough the front runner tied up, three out, leaving the outsider Kirkson in front.
More drama a furlong out as Kirkson began to hang hard left, carrying several of his opponents across.
This left the field spread out across the course.
Indeed the left hand drift may well have helped Why Nee Amy who found herself against the far rail and this enabled David Probert to get a good run out of her, so good he snatched the race, heading Kirkson on the line.
The favourite True Britannia came home third.
Meanwhile against the stand rail the unfortunately named Dead Cat Bounce made eye catching late progress to come home fourth.
There were no bids for the winner in the post race auction.
14:54 A seven furlong handicap for our second contest and with two non-runners eight went down to the start.
Unfortunately it was not to be good news for each-way backers as Harryana To (who was a real sod in the parade ring) refused to enter the stalls so we were left with seven runners.
Greystoke Prince set the pace, with Elusive Hawk tracking.
Elusive Hawk was an interesting runner from the Barney Curley stable. Well backed this morning it opened favourite on-course but drifted alarmingly in the betting. At the same time the top weight, Grey Boy, attracted a great deal of support.
Two out the front runners had ceded the lead to To Be Or Not To Be and Shane Kelly on the favourite suddenly found himself with nowhere to go.
With To Be Or Not To Be pulling away, it was Mudhish who became the challenger.
Grey Boy eventually got a clear run and although closing on the second, Mudish, as they approached the line, he was never going to challenge the winner To Be Or Not To Be.
14:22 A 6f maiden to get us under way this afternoon.
Six went to post, including two newcomers. One of them Prince Fortune was very much on his toes in the parade ring. Not surprisingly he missed the break, but did get the hang of things in the race, coming home fourth.
Izaaj was sent off the very short priced favourite, under Frankie Dettori. He rode a tactical race, settling in fourth place for most of the contest.
With Mark Johnston having a runner, Rock Of Love, it was no surprise that he set off in front.
He still had the lead a furlong out, at which point Dettori asked for an effort and he hit the front.
However he did not win as one would expect a 1/2 to and Rock Of Love made the jolly earn his corn.
Izaaj, however held on to win by a length.
The second favourite Clan Piper was very disappointing, seemingly not getting the six.
13:52 The sun is out again - it is going to be one of those afternoons.
13:27 The heavens have opened.
13:02 Good afternoon from Yarmouth where the weather is overcast, with some drizzle in the air. There is also a fairly brisk headwind in the home straight.
Three more non-runners to add to the list.
09:10 Make that five non-runners, the latest being Lady Hestia, the likely favourite in our finale.
09:02 Following a dry night the official going is Good To Firm, although some showers are forecast this morning.
We currently have four non-runners, details on the right.
