Racing Live -  Windsor 26th June 2011

09:08 It has been a dry night and a dry, sunny day is forecast. The official going is GOOD.

Running rails are in their normal position thus providing fresh ground.

There are, currently, no non-runners.

10:45 It has been pointed out to me by Eddie Freemantle, thanks Eddie, the rails were actually moved prior to racing yesterday, so the "fresh ground" has already been raced on.

10:52 There are currently two non-runners.

13:29 Good afternoon from a blistering hot and sunny Royal Windsor racecourse.

The going is officially good although I would not be surprised if the words good to firm were to appear in the going report sometime this afternoon.

I have just walked the course and am having trouble finding where the fresh ground is as it is churned up right across the course.

13:38 I have achieved hero status in the press rom as I have forsaken the curled up sandwiches in the press room and have opted for the noodle bar - not only that I have gone for the ultra hot crispy chilli beef.

Probably too much information but I am now sweating profusely - not sure if it is the weather, the chilli or both.

14:15 Our opening contest is the toteplacepot Win Without Backing A WinnerHandicap, with 14 going to post for the mile contest.

No surprise a few are getting warm her, most notably Arctic Mirage and Night Witch. Full Fottage was getting more and more worked up the longer she was in the ring. Blue Maisey was pulling slightly. Thank You Joy is very diminutive but is nice and relaxed.

14:22 Blue Maisey and Thank You Joy were both keen to post, Uncle Dermot had to be restrained going to post.

13:35 Something of a scrappy race for our opener with the honours going to Uncle Dermot, ridden by Kieren Fallon. Settled in the main bunch he moved into a challenging position three out, striking for home a furlong out, heading a group of three, along with Blue Maisey and Whodathought.

It is probably fortunate stole a lead as Uncle Dermot was noticeably tiring in the final half furlong and although the other pair were closing the line came in time for the winner, who recorded a three quarter length victory, with Whodathoughta similar distance back in third.

Zaheeb was sent off the 9/2 favourite and was close enough if good enough in the home straight but eneded up beating only one home.

14:49 Race two is the Try totequickpick On All totepool Bets Handicap over the minimum distance of five furlongs, with seven going to post.

Cliffords Reprive threw a real wobbly when coming into the parade ring, his lass did well to keep hold of him. Abadejo was also getting a little worked up.

Albany Rose is the pick on form and looks.

15:05 This is a race where the horse won despite her rider doing everything possible to get himself stuck behind rivals. It says a great deal about Albany Rose's ability that once pulled wide by Ted Durcan she had the acceleration to pull clear to record a five length victory for favourite backers.

Best Be Careful, Johnny Hancocks and Acclamatory set the pace with the others behind and despite there only being seven runners Ted Durcan managed to find trouble.

Once in the clear Albany Rose showed her class.

Johnny Hancocks took second spot with Best Be Careful a further 2 1/2 lengths back in third.

15:14 Not a bad crowd here in the sun this afternoon

15:19 From the minimum distance we go to the longest race of the afternoon, the extended 1m 3f Try totequickpick If You're Feeling Lucky Handicap with 11 going to post.

I had fancied Significant Move this morning but he is very much on his toes in the parade ring. Tenesse was jig-joggy in the parade ring, Samsons Son was very relaxed.

15:31 If you backed Aspro Mavro in this contest you had no run for your money as he had a Hamlet moment and remained in the stalls when they opened.

Of those who did set off Countess Comet set the pace with with Urban Space and Mick's Dancer set teh pace with the favourite, Significant Move, settled round about eight spot.

By two out it was all change as Jivry took up the running with Samsons Son, Foxhaven and the reluctant Significant Move.

Neil Callan was stoking away on Significant Move but to no avail and it was Samsons Son and Jivry who battled to the line with the former getting a head verdict after Nick Bostock had to consult the camera.

Significant Move did finish third a further length and a half back with Foxhaven a further three parts of a length back in fourth.

It was eight lengths back to the remainder who were headed by Where's Susie.

15:47 Our feature contest is the EBF "Winker Watson" Fillies' Conditions Stakes over five furlongs, with seven two-year-old fillies going to post.

Betty Fontaine is a compact filly, Guru Girl is well toned and is slightly on edge but not going over. My Lucky Liz is pulling, Aquasulis is slightly pulling. Pressure Drop was getting quite fizzed-up.

16:04 A stonking finish to our feature contest where the proverbial blanket could have been thrown over the first six home, in a race where there was plenty of greeness on display.

Pressure Drop flew out of the stalls but then blotted her copybook by veering hard left, going from first to last in almost an instant. Guru Girl was another exhibiting a left hand drive, when she drifted when asked for an effort half way.

A furlong out any one of six could have been called the winner, with only Finalist out of contention.

It really was a case of diving for the line and it was the diminutive Betty Fontaine, with teh equally diminutive Sam Hitchcott on her back, who thrust he head forward to record a neck victory.

It was yet another case of referring to the camera for judge Nick Bostock with Aquasulis getting second spot a short head in front of My Lucky Liz.

Guru Girl was fourth, with Pressure Drop fifth and long time leader Bookiesindexdodnet sixth.

Finalist eventually finished 24 lengths behind her nearest rival.

16:24 Another mile contest for our penultimate race, the toteexacta The Better Value Forecast Handicap, with 11 going to post.

Moynahan is clearly an RUK fan - just placed a very well aimed direct fly kick at an ATR advertising hoarding. Spectait is a big horse and is slightly on his toes. Wisecraic is getting very warm.

On a personal note I think I have just broken my little finger after jamming it behind a stair rail.

16:31  Panic over - finger not broken - I only dislocated it, have just managed to pop it back into place.

16:37 Samarinda burts out of the stalls so a delay to the next at Windsor

16:45 A good demonstration of tactical riding from Seb Sanders as he produced Jewelled with a perfectly timed run against the stands rail, running on well from mid-division to record a 1 1/4 length victory.

Yet again a photo was required to decide the minor placings and Moynahan showed he was none the worse for his paddock shenanigans by getting second spot, a nose ahead of Audemar.

Woodcote Place finished fourth with the favourite Norman Orpen having to settle for fifth, having hit traffic problems and having to be taken wide.

Guilded Warrior, winner of this race last year, set the pace but faded late on to come home eighth.

17:03 Our final contest is the toteswinger More Ways To Win Maiden Fillies Stakes with ten fillies lining up in the mile contest.

Electra Star had two handlers and was pulling slightly. Graceful Act was jig-joggy.

17:08
News from the stewards room Zaheeb in the first and Elusive Diva in the second both lost shoes in their races.

17:14 Some respite for punters as the favourite Electra Star takes the final contest here at Windsor.

Settled behind the front running duo of Lucky Legs and Eastern Breeze she came late under Kieren Fallon to record a one and a half length victory.

The front running Lucky legs came home second with Regal Salute third.

The hard luck story in the race concerned Indian Mist, on her debut. She missed the start badly but managed to get into a challenging position only to meet interference a furlong from home, eventually finishing fifth, certainly value for more and one to watch next time out.

17:20 That's it from Family Fun Day at Windsor, now the biggest challenge of the afternoon - getting out of the place.

Our next live coverage will be from Stratford, over the sticks, on Tuesday. Until then good afternoon from a very hot and sunny Thames side setting.
