Racing Live - Windsor 18th May 2009

20:53 That’s it from an eventful evening here at Windsor.

I’m sure we have not heard the last of syringegate, a story that is going to run and run.

No eyecatchers tonight but a good Monday evening crowd.

Our next coverage will be from Yarmouth tomorrow afternoon.

20:51 Well our final contest of the evening, a 5f handicap, was reduced to eight runners with four defectors and it almost proved to be a perfect result for our notebook.

Approaching a furlong out it looked as though Captain Carey, who went into the notebook at Bath in early April was going to pull off the win at 20/1.

However Steve Drowne, on second favourite, Affluent, had the move covered and took up the running a furlong out, to win by 1¼ lengths.

Desert Strike came home third, with the favourite Sharp Bullet managing fourth.

20:27 More joy for favourite backers as the grey Strawberrydaiquiri took our penultimate contest, a mile fillies’ stakes.

Something of a nightmare for racereaders as four of the thirteen runners were in all pink!!

Luckily none of them featured when the chips were down.

Silk Trail and Mission Lodge were the pacesetters, tracked by Candy Ride and the favourite.

In the home straight Silk Trail still had the advantage, with Candy Ride on his quarters. However Ryan Moore was tracking the front pair and launched a run approaching the furlong marker.

In a matter of strides Strawberrydaiquiri had destroyed his field, coming home by six lengths, giving Ryan Moore a treble on the night.

Candy Ride managed to overtake Silk Trail to grab the runners up spot by three parts of a length.

19:52 Our longest race of the evening, a near mile and a half handicap, saw six go to post and a very tight betting heat.

It was also one of those races where, three out, any one of four could have won the contest.

Cosimo set the pace and was still leading three out, when the challengers came. Calaloo was the first to take the lead but both Lethal Glaze and the favourite Perfect Shot came with late runs, with the former getting the call, giving Richard Hughes a double.

An interesting evening as after four races the jockey score is Ryan Moore 2 – Richard Hughes 2.

19:31 Well it is really blowing up here. More news on the withdrawal of Sendreni.

Apparently an empty syringe, labelled as  containing an “unallowed” substance was found in possession of the trainer, M Wigham.

The trainer is unable to offer any explanation as to how the syringe came to be there.

The matter has been referred to the BHA.

19:24 A 6f claimer for our third contest in which 11 went to post.

Vegas Baby, the favourite, hit the front after about a furlong and managed to maintain the lead despite late challenges from Carribean Coral and Castano.

18:46 Job done in the second contest as the favourite, Monsieur Chevalier, booked himself a place at Royal Ascot.

Settled in rear by Richard Hughes, the other pair of Archers Road and Kirsty’s Boy battled it out for the lead.

Kirsty’s Boy was under pressure three out and Archers Road two out.

Also two out the favourite began his run and he took the lead a furlong out and although Archers Road tried to make a race of it the result was never in question and the winner came home an eased 1¾ length winner.

18:39 Interesting development in the 7:10 – Sendrini has “been withdrawn by the Stewards.”

18:32 Only three in our second contest, another over 5f.

Physically all three are pretty similar, although the favourite, Monsieur Chevalier, looks the most relaxed of the three.

18:17 Well Richard Hannon had the first two in the betting and they duly obliged, although not quite in the order the betting suggested.

The also ran contrasting races. White Daffodil, the favourite, was with the pace along with Monte Mayor One and Pursuit Of Gold.

His other runner, Yer Woman, was ridden more patiently by Ryan Moore and, more importantly, Moore placed his filly near the stands rail.

A furlong out Moore asked Yer Woman for an effort and she responded well, showing a good turn of foot, coming home 1½ lengths ahead of her stablemate.

Miss Lesley came home third.

18:04 A 2 year old maiden fillies race over 5 furlongs gets us underway and looking at them in the paddock nothing really stands out.

Quite a few of them look like babies and will come on in the coming months.

Monte Mayor One looked very small and was slightly on her toes. Riffelalp is one of those very narrow, size zero, runners.

Miss Lesley was very relaxed, whilst Bramshill Lady was getting warm.

16:37 Good afternoon from Windsor, where the weather is overcast and there is a strong breeze. Unfortunately the clouds we do have are of the grey variety.

The number of non-runners has now reached double figures.

14:18 The non-runner count hits eight.

13:49 ... and another one bites the dust.

11:30 and two more defectors

10:35 Another non-runner

09:35 After 4mm of rain in the last 24 hours the official going is Good, Good to Soft in places.
