5:00 More of a procession than a race. Only five runners where the lead changed a few times before they lined up coming home. In the end Lindsay, who jumped beautifully, beat Meet The Legend by 26 lengths.
And that is it from a chilly Wincanton where the rain has finally stopped.
4:30 With three non-runners only five made it to post and yes - you have guessed it - another vain attempt to go from pillar to post.
Turfshuffle from the Nicky Henderson yard was the latest to attempt the feat, leading from flag fall until just before the last when Font took up the running to claim a five length victory.
It was an odd run from the runner up Sangfroid, who had tracked the leader early on but seemed to have run his race turning out of the back straight, only to rally again after the second last.
The long time leader only managed to finish third, with the very disappointing Mutual Friend the only other finisher.
The winner was another victory for last years champion trainer Paul Nichols.
4:00 A rarity here in that we have a race with no non-runners and this was going to be a war of attrition over three miles one and in driving rain.
Also this was another race where a runner attempted to make all, only to be thwarted in the home straight.
This time it was Oakfield Legend who attempted to make all and at the start of the back straight on the final circuit he had a ten length advantage over his rivals.
However Even More from the Alner yard, favourites here at Wincanton, always seemed to have the measure of the leader and two out he made his move. With his front running tactics taking their toll Oakfield Legend was unable to respond and Even More ran out an easy 16 length winner.
Joint favourite Wizard of Edge from the Ron Hodges yard took third place a never nearer 8 lengths further behind. The other joint favourite I'm Supreme wasn't and finished last.
3:42 No surprise but there are lots of non-runners coming through with this continuing rain.
3:30 Well what an odd race - well I say race but for most of the 13 runners it was not a race at all. Even before the first hurdle the field was strung out like the washing blowing in the wind.
The well backed favourite Latanier from the Venetia Williams yard made his intentions clear from the start as Sam Thomas set a strong pace. Only the second favourite Charlottes Web and Cashel Blue raced anywhere near the leader for most of the first circuit.
By the time they turned into the home straight there were only five runners in with any chance of taking the spoils and it still looked as though the favourite could grind out a pillar to post victory.
However simultaneous challenges from both Brenin Cwmtudu from the Evan Wiliams yard and third favourite Petito.
It turned out to be a duel to the line with the Williams gelding just hanging on from the ever closing third favourite, with the front running favourite 14 lengths back in third.
3:08 No surprise but the going has now been changed to good to soft
3:00 There may only had been six runners but the race was exciting nonetheless.Amir El Jabil and Walsingham set the early pace, occasionally joined by the old timer Jupon Vert, who ran in snatches.
As often happens though the complexion of the race changed as they turned from home as second favourite Nesnaas made a decisive run - unlike the previous race the run really did prove to be decisive, with the winner beating the field by 23 lengths.
The runner up and favourite Oldrik jumped terribly to the left in the home straight, almost running down his fences. It certainly cost him some distance although if it actually cost him 23 lengths is debatable. I would suggest he is one to treat with caution.
Indeed the favourite was almost done on the line by the 11 year old Jupon Vert who was running on very strongly.
For me the one to take out of the race was the winner.
2:40 Well that's the 19 runner handicap done and dusted - next we have a six runner chase - much easier to report on
2:30 It has to be said the rain had an impact on the outcome of this event with several runners slipping on landing. It has been raining for a good hour now and conditions are slippery.
Constable Burton made the early running and had been joined by Barodine at the second flight - however Barodine became the first casualty as he slipped on landing.
The field were pretty well bunched up for most of the race until Tony McCoy on Charmahal made what appeared to be a decisive run coming out of the back straight.
Avant Gardiste from the Pipe yard had other ideas and took up the running at the last running on for an easy victory.
The well backed favourite Takotna 9/2 into 3/1 was a never closer third behind outsider Dark Energy.
2:00 Good afternoon from a dank and wet Wincanton where we have a six race card.
