Racing Live -  Uttoxeter 29th January 2011

16:43 That’s it from a somewhat disappointing afternoons racing, only slightly redeemed by the exciting finish in the last.

Our next live coverage will be from Leicester on Wednesday, until then a very good evening.

16:40 It’s has been a long slog here this afternoon but those who stayed for the last race were treated to the best finish of the afternoon, indeed one of the best finishes you will see in a long while.

Despite being warm in the parade ring Azione set the pace and was not going to go down without a fight as Fentara came to challenge three out.

The lead changed hands a couple of times in the home straight with Azione fighting back every time Fentara hit the front.

There was little to choose between the pair jumping the last but then all hell broke loose as the entire complexion of the contest changed.

Those watching the battle between the front due failed to spot Tom Phelan galvanising Inkberrow Rose and the gelding responded to pass his remaining rivals and grab the spoils by 1¼ lengths.

Fentara was first to crack but Azione still had to battle to claim second place as Royal Chatelier also came with a late rattle, just failing to grab the runners-up spot by a short head.

Fentara was a further 1½ lengths back in fourth.

There is also a what if? Hanging over this contest as the favourite Sun Tzu unseated his rider at the seventh.

16:16 Our final contest is the Banner Marquees Handicap Hurdle with seven competing over the extended 2½ miles.

The rabid dog, foaming at the mouth, in this contest is Azione. The remainder were nondescript apart from Sun Tzu who looked heads and shoulders above the remainder.

Denis O’Regan now rides Royal Chatelier.

16:00 This turned into quite a war of attrition with Paul Moloney making the most of his only ride here after diverting from Doncaster. Master d’Or was held up in the early stages before making progress to be one of three challengers turning for home.

The other pair were Lorum Leader , who had led from the start, and El Zorro, with all their rivals either pulled-up or so tailed off they could not win barring accidents.

Master d’Or looked the weaker of the three as El Zorro challenged Lorum Leader three out but it was all change approaching two out as Lorum Leader started sending out distress signals and Madter d’Or pulled clear with El Zoro the challenger.

Master d’Or held on to win by 3¼ lengths over El Zorro, with Lorum Leader 14 lengths back in third, these three being the only finishers.

15:40 Our penultimate contest is the A & S Enterprises Handicap Chase over the extended 2m 6f.

Three jockey changes in this contest Jason Maguire rides Supreme Plan, Denis O’Regan Sandsofthecolosseum and Paul Moloney Masterd’Or.

Lorum Leader is very much on his toes, The Vicar and Open de L’Isle are both pulling and Sandsofthecolosseum is swishing his tail like a windmill.

15:27 Let’s get the obvious comment out of the way as Pegasus Prince sprouts wings on the run-in to take the feature race.

Eastwell Smiles, looking to maintain his unbeaten record over hurdles set out to make all but paid the price for his front running exertions when he faded turning for home, eventually pulling up.

Blenheim Brook took up the running when the favourite faded but his lead was short lived as Colour Clash showed a good turn of foot to hit the front two out. The lead was short lived however as Blenheim Brook again took up the running approaching the last and as Colour Clash faded, Pegasus Prince ran into contention.

Blenheim  Brook still had the advantage clearing the last but Pegasus Prince had the far rail and flew into the lead where it mattered, claiming a 1¾ length lead.

Colour Clash came home third but 18 lengths behind the front pair.

15:04 Race five is the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Novices’ Handicap Hurdle with nine going to post in the two mile contest.

Colour Clash has a very low head carriage, almost grazing his nose. Rushwee is on his toes and My Viking Bay is slightly pulling.

14:49 An impressive race as Mister Wiseman sees off all-comers to make all and take the contest by five lengths.

Innominate and Festival Dreams were the first challenger but both their efforts came to nothing.

Pacha D’Oudairies was the last significant challenger, coming from nearer last than first to get within striking distance as the lined up for home. However Mister Wiseman had enough in hand to hold on to win.

Pacha D’Oudairies came home a one paced second.

Favourite Handtheprizeover looked destined for third spot but was treading water on the run-in to be denied third spot by Delgany Gunner.

14:35 Race four is the Richard Wilcoxson Memorial Novices’ Handicap Chase, a 2m 5f contest with seven due to line up.

Festival Dreams is pulling a bit as are, to a lesser extent are Action Hawk and Delgany Gunner. Prety nondescript otherwise with nothing standing out.

14:23 A cracking finish to the seller with Big Talk and King Of Castile having a right royal battle to the line.

The pair jumped the last clear with Big Talk having the advantage, however on the run-in King Of Castile got the far rail and eased ahead. Not wanting to be beaten Big Talk fought back to edge ahead crossing the line half a length clear.

Nicky Nutjob held a prominent position but faded in the home straight.

14:00 Race three is the extended 2½ mile PJD Group Selling Hurdle, with seven going to post.

Mekong Miss carries 1lb overweight, she was pulling slightly. Big Talk is the negative, pulling hard and frothing at the mouth like a rabid dog..

13:49 Two races and two front running performances, although this time it was not Jason Maguire who came out on top as Evella made all to, ultimately, take the contest relatively easily.

It has to be said though the winner was helped by a somewhat indifferent performance from the odds-on favourite Smuglin, who was clearly having an off day.

As they completed the first circuit Maguire had to give the jolly some sharp reminders and although she was in striking distance of the leader for most of the contest, she never looked like threatening.

The winning distance was ultimately 14 lengths.

The other two contenders were never in the race with Home She Goes coming home third, 43 lengths behind the runner-up and Here’s The Key, running green throughout, came home a further 32 lengths behind.

13:26 Race two is the EBF/TBA Mares’ Novices’ Chase with just four going to post for the extended 2m 6f contest.

Snuglin is now ridden by Jason Maguire and Denis O’Regan rides Here’s The Key, who is the negative, pulling slightly and getting warm.

13:15 Well a good spare ride for Jason Maguire with what was basically a steering job on Empress Orchid, whose only blemish was going through the top of two out.

Making all the further they went the further clear he pulled away, coming home an eased 11 length winner.

Samoa took second place with Misstaysia in third. The latter named had taken a strong hold early on but once she settled she improved.

Go Ruby Go was as unimpressive on the track as she was in the parade ring.

Qualitee’s race was short lived, pulled up before the third as her saddle slipped.

12:58 Our opening contest is the two mile Uttoxeter Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle, with just six going to post.

Jason Maguire now rides Empress Orchid, who looks ready for this contest, unlike Go Ruby Go who is getting warm and pulling hard. Diamond Mm is very laid back.

12:00 Good afternoon from a chilly Uttoxeter.

There is a stiff wind, behind the runners in the home straight.

No going stick reading is available and we have two non-runners.

09:39 No surprise Pepite Rose is out of the opener after her race at Fontwell yesterday

09:19 Despite temperatures reaching -3 overnight, the course has passed an inspection and racing goes ahead.

The official going is heavy on the chase course, heavy, soft in places on the hurdle course. We are still awaiting an updated going stick reading.

There is currently one non-runner and the action gets underway at 13:05.
