21:18 That's it from Southwell, a lovely sunny evening - a shame teh crowd was small.
Tomorrow should be a big crowd as we go to Sandown for the best evening's racing of the year.
21:16 Our final contest another 2m 5f handicap hurdle for novices’ and we finally had a thrilling finish.
You And I set off to make all under Felix De Giles and it looked as though it was going to be a successful attempt, until his rivals began to close in the home straight.
Challenges came on both sides and both Dan Maguire and Friends Of Tina looked as though they were going to take up the running.
However You And I was nothing but brave and De Giles managed to get some more out of the Nicky Henderson trained gelding and he held on for a half length victory.
It was even closer for the runners-up spot and it took judge Nick Bostock a few minutes to call the sunning on Sundarbob the nose second, with Friends Of Tina taking third.
20:41 Our second hurdle was an 2m 1f contest and, once again, we were treated to a procession – will we gat a close finish this evening?
It was also another good result for favourite backers as Treaty Flyer was given a perfect, well judged, ride by Richard Johnson, to record an eight length victory.
Settled around half way for most of the contest, Johnson made progress half way down the back straight for the final time, taking up the running two out and never looking to be in any danger.
Lady Hillingdon, who had tracked the leaders, was the runner up and eleven lengths further back was Warpath, who ran in snatches.
20:17 The first of our three hurdles was a 2m 5f seller and it is proving to be a good evening for Irish trainer Paul Gilligan who has a double on the night with One Cool Day.
Go Commercial set the pace, tracked by Bally France and the winner.
As they went out on the final circuit One Cool Day hit the front and soon had daylight between himself and his rivals.
Flaming Creek emerged from the pack as the challenger, although I would use that term loosely as he was well clear and never looking threatened.
Indeed they were so strung out that the third placed horse, Lucky Pearl, came home a further 26 lengths behind the runner-up.
19:44 Our final chase of the evening was over 2m 5f and nine started but only three finished.
Fighting Chance set out to make all and he led until unseating three out. It has to be said when he fell he looked to be beaten as the favourite Tigu was on his quarters and looking poised to take the lead.
The fall left Tigu in front with the challenger appearing in the shape of Charmahal under AP McCoy.
Coming to the last Tigu looked to have the measure of his rival, who then proceeded to dump McCoy on the ground – his second fall of the evening. Independently third placed Pelo Du Bief unseated at the same fence.
This left Tigu to come home a distance clear of the other two finishers, King de Lune and Fencote Mystery.
19:15 Only five went to post for our 3m 2f beginners chase and three finished.
The casualties, both OK, were Joe’s A Boy (fell 14th) and Faithful Dancer (pulled up).
In terms of the race itself it was musical places throughout as the field were well bunched. The only constant being Black Anshan who more or less led all the way, although he was being harried until left on his own by Joe’s A Boy’s fall.
The field were well strung out coming home and although Black Anshan came home ten lengths clear he almost walked across the line, he was eased so much.
Dunkelly Dancer, who had been happy to chase his rivals, took second spot.
The short priced favourite Cannon Fire came home in his own time, a very tired third and last.
18:44 A 2m 1f handicap chase to get us underway this evening.
Kellys Fable was the pacesetter with the favourite Prince des Marais and El Coto on the leaders quarters.
There was very little change in the order until the turned for home when both the leader and the favourite quickly dropped out, the latter pulling up.
This left Best Of The Lot the leader, an Irish raider, who soon had his rivals under pressure. McClean looked to be the biggest rival but he took a crashing fall two out (eventually getting up and walking away).
Just Like That was left in second spot and although gaining on the winner Best Of The Lot he was flattered to deceive as the leader was eased.
Russian Invader took third spot.
17:25 Good evening from Southwell, where we have broken cloud. It will be interesting to see what the crowd is like tonight as we have opposition from a certain football match in Rome.
