17:29 That’s it from Newmarket, where the weather remained kind to us.
Like yesterday the racing wasn’t of the highest quality, the best race being the two-year-old contest where Klammer and My Son Max both caught the eye.
Our next live coverage will be on Monday, although not sure where yet – it will be either Bath or Leicester.
Meanwhile from Newmarket a very good afternoon.
17:25 I think I am going to stop looking at the runners in the parade ring – had you seen Day Of The Eagle fighting his handlers and fly kicking you would not even want to back him with yore enemies money, never mind your own.
I suppose it seems appropriate that such a free spirited runner was ridden by Kieren Fallon and probably only Fallon could have got him home in front – but that is exactly what he did, recording a length victory.
Negotiation was the hare in the contest, although his lead was far from uncontested with Standpoint and George Thisby in close order.
Mac’s Power who had attracted market support found himself with nowhere to go as they came into the dip.
The race turned into a dash for the line as it changed complexion in the closing stage.
Fallon forged his way to the front but Seasider and Macs Power, who eventually benefited from an opening gap, chased after him.
The favourite had enough in hand to record a length victory, making a complete mockery of my paddock observations in the process.
Seasider held on for second with Mac’s Power, arguably, an unlucky third.
17:10 An interesting postscript to the 14:45, connections of Navy List were find for arriving at the start with a girth strap which could not be adjusted.
17:00 Our final contest is the 32redpoker.com Handicap with ten facing the seven furlong contest.
Day Of The Eagle, Fallon’s mount, is a big negative in the parade ring, getting worked up, fly kicking and swishing his tail, looking most unhappy.
Mac’s Power is a little bit on his toes.
16:48 If you look at the bare result of this race it would seem the very short priced favourite beat an outsider by 1¼ lengths, however it does not tell the full story.
Afsare was the favourite in question and he was worse away when they came out of the stalls.
After three furlongs he made it to the front with market rival Squall, who had led from the gates opening.
Approaching the bushes Afsare was the clear leader with Squall being just that with the wind having been taken out of his sails, becoming becalmed.
As they came down the hill the immediate challenger to the favourite was Linnens Star. It also came increasingly apparent Afsare was hating the good to firm going and the horse began to drift markedly left. Luckily he was clear of Linnens Star, who tracked the leaders left hand drive.
Battle Honour came with a late run and with Afsare’s drift looked to be a serious challenger.
Luckily for favourite backers the favourite reached the stands rail and had to straighten up and he had enough in hand to take the race.
Speaking afterwards the winning jockey Kieren Fallon said the horse did not like the ground but he also ran green.
16:33 Afsare is a very short priced favourite in this race and he looks the part.
16:21 Our penultimate contest is the 32red.com Maiden Stakes over a mile with only six taking part and three not competing.
Dhaafer is getting warm in the parade ring.
16:14 A cracking little contest with My Son Max and the favourite Klammer having a grand battle in the final furlong.
It was Klammer who eventually prevailed by a neck but My Son Max was not goiung to go down without a fight.
It did not look too good for Klammer at the start as he missed the break but after a furlong he had made up the lost ground and was in third place.
Up front Alfraamsey and My Son Max were battling it out.
By two out Alfraamsey had run his race and Klammer was gaining in My Son Max.
Klammer had real trouble getting his head in front and really had to grind down My Son May.
So Is She, a madam in the parade ring, reluctant in the stalls, was as green as the grass on Newmarket Heath and came home last of all.
Both the front two were having only their second runs, both having won first time out. My Son Max lost absolutely nothing in defeat and will be back in the winners enclosure again.
15:47 A two-year-old contest next as five compete for the 32redpoker.com Novice Stakes over six furlongs.
So Is She is really throwing a hissy fit in the parade ring, bucking and rearing
Alfraamsey is a little bit on his toes and Orientalist is a very big horse.
13:57 In a 1¾ mile contest you would expect the winner to come from behind – not in this race.
Chiberta King broke best of all and a mile and three-quarters later his head was still in front – indeed to be pedantic all his body was clear of his rivals as he recoded a two length victory.
Gordonsville was in second spot throughout and looked as though he would be in that position as they came out of the dip. However Swiss Act and Gala Evening, who looked to be in trouble half way, both ran on and had a good duel for the runners-up spot with Gala Evening getting the verdict by a short head.
Gordonsville had to settle for fourth spot.
Mykingdomforahorse was another looking in trouble halfway but once he saw daylight approaching three out he made some progress but flattered to deceive.
15:11 Up to 1¾ miles for our fourth contest which sees 11 lining up for the 32Red Handicap.
Royal Diamond was pulling as was Far From Old. Moonbeam Dancer was on her toes.
Judgethemoment looked very nice.
15:01 Navy List who was nasty going down and who needed substantial tack adjustment at the start ran too freely, initially taking up the running.
However it was not long before the Johnston runner, Green Lightning , took up the running and the two set a steady pace.
The other Godolphin runner Next Move was next followed by the favourite Harris Tweed. Beneath ran fifth with Into Wain held up in last place.
Three out there had been little change in the order and this was when the favourite began to run on.
Coming into the dip Navy List had run his race and Harris Tweed was breathing down the neck of Green Lightning.
It was just a question of when the favourite would sweep into the lead.
Of course real life does not reflect what “should” happen and Green Lightning did not fold and held on to record a 1¾ length victory.
Beneath made some progress to finish third, 4½ lengths back.
Into Wain was most disappointing failing to respond when asked for an effort, coming home fourth.
The Godolphing pair finished in the final two places.
14:36 Race three is the 1½ mile 32Red Casino Handicap, only six face the starter.
Navy List is being a right handful going to post.
14:30 No surprise the Mark Johnston trained St Moritz set the pace, seemingly unaffected by his parade ring antics, although he did not have it all his own way in front as Willow Dancer was soon upsides.
The chasers were headed by Vainglory, whilst the favourite, Invisible Man, was settled in rear with only the held up Highly Regal behind.
Little change up front until they came out of the dip, at which point Vainglory set off for home, soon leading. This coincided with Willow Dancer engaging reverse gear.
Audemar, who would probably have preferred a faster pace, ran on to take second and St Moritz just held on from Invisible Man (making arguably too late a challenge to be unseen as far as the places were concerned) for third.
14:04 Time for the senior jockeys now and race two is the 32red.com Handicap over a mile with seven runners, Dajen being the absentee.
St Moritz almost got free in the parade ring, trying to take off and dragging his handler across the paddock, he seems to have calmed down now.
13:56 Well even to the untrained eye it was clear some of the young riders have plenty to learn but there is nothing like racecourse experience to bring them on.
There were no clear pacesetters in the contest with Rubenstar, Amosite, Thoughtsofstardom and Imprimis Taguloa all with the pace.
Soon Requisite joined the leading group and he was the first to make the dash for home soon opening up daylight with Thoughtsofstardom in pursuit.
Matthew Cosham on Peopleton Brook had obviously watched yesterdays racing and realised the best ground was in the centre of the course as he launched a late challenge.
Also launching a challenge was the favourite, Impimis Tagula, who ran on well in the closing stages, hitting the front with half a furlong to go and holding on by ¾ of a length from Peopleton Brook, with Thoughtsofstardom back in third.
13:39 I nearly forgot the food report, a chicken stroganoff - which is a pity as I cannot abide mushrooms.
13:38 No real miscreants in the parade ring, Amosite, Magical Speedfit, Requisite and Peopleton Brook were ever so slightly on their toes.
On the other hand Brunelleschi, Rubenstar and Thoughstofstardom were very relaxed.
13:25 Our opening contest is the, big breath in, Racing Excellence “Hands & Heels” Apprentice Series Handicap (sponsored By Careeresinracing), in which 11 line up for the six furlong contest.
This is the first in a series of races specifically designed to help and encourage young jockeys.
12:23 Good afternoon from Newmarket, where you can pays yer money and takes your choice with the weather.
One side of the course is bathed in sunshine and on the other side there is a nasty grey cloud.
We now have five non-runners, full details on the right.
Just under 1½ hours to our opening race and there already seem to be more racegoers here than yesterday.
No Tommo here today, he is at Newbury for Channel Four duty, our commentator here is John Hunt.
10:44 ..... and a third.
10:08 We have a second non-runner.
08:56 It has been a dry night and a dry, sunny, day is forecast with temperatures expected to reach the 16 degree mark.
The official going is described as Good to Firm and 4mm of water was applied to the final mile of the course after racing yesterday.
The seven race card gets underway at 13:45 and we have just the one non-runner, which will be in your papers, at present.
