Racing Live - Leicester 24th June 2010

21:22 That’s it from Leicester, where we have seen some competitive but low grade racing.

Also two exceedingly disappointing favourites in our final two contests.

Our next live coverage will be from Chester on Saturday, until then good evening.

21:18 Well another well touted favourite getting beaten in our final contest.

Mark Johnston’s Jay’s Treaty set the pace, with The Human League and Tribal Myth on his quarters, with the favourite Rock The Stars second last and Dutiful stone last.

When the contest stoked up it became a close contest was Tribal Myth was a slight leader, with Tamtara, Rock The Stars and the running on Dutiful all in with chances.

Seb Sanders was working hard on Rock The Stars but he seemingly did not want to run on, it cannot be the ground as his last two wins were on good to firm going.

Dutiful
had no resolution issues as he ran on from last to first, recording a length victory.

Rock The Stars came home a disappointing second, with Tamtara third and Tribal Myth fourth.

20:52 The short priced favourite Sonoran Sands was unimpressive in the preliminaries and was equally unimpressive in the race itself.

He had a flyer from the stalls but was soon headed by both Colorado Gold and debutant Snow Legend, although the latters challenge was short live as she ran very green, soon dropping out of contention and coming home last.

Colorado Gold
had a good lead a furlong out and Fallon had to get to work on the jolly. However he cocked his jaw half a furlong out and fought Fallon all the way in the final half furlong. Being charitable one could say he did not like the ground, however I suspect the animal is irresolute.

Bajan Bear made some late progress to finish third at a decent 33/1 for each-way backers.

Rylee Mooch was just as laid back on the track as he was in the parade ring, he finished fifth passing beaten horses. In truth he looks like as though he would be suited by something better than sprinting.

20:32 Race five is the six furlong, Osbaston Maiden Auction Stakes, with eight going to post.

It features the most laid back horse you have ever seen – Rylee Moock, he looks as though he is about to fall asleep. Having said that his trainer says he actually was asleep in the horse box when they arrived at the course this afternoon.

By contrast Sonoran Sands and Lady Morganna are both very much on their toes, especially the latter.

20:18 A race run at a very steady pace, with The Hermitage and Dark Eyes setting what pace there was.

Favourite Maid In Heaven tracked them, with Kai Mook and Hairspray in the next rank.

Half way there was little change in the order, with Breathless Kiss having made some progress, two out Dark Eyes came under pressure.

Approaching a furlong out Shane Kelly set Maid In Heaven to her task and soon pulled well clear, ending the race as a contest.

Love Match, as is her style, ran on in the closing stages but only came within 2¾ lengths of the winner.

The Hermitage held on one pace to take third, with Breathless Kiss fourth.

20:04 Back to the straight course for race four, the 7f Rempstone Fillies’ Handicap, with nine facing the starter.

Love Match, The Hermitage and Maid In Heaven all caught the eye in the parade ring.

Copper Penny was a little bit on her toes and getting a little bit warm.

Kai Mook is the parade ring negative, very much on her toes.

19:54 A very close finish to our third.

The whole field emerged from the stalls very slowly, almost walking out.

Astronomical was the early pace setter, with Annie Moyles, Quadrifolio and Magnitude not far behind.

After  a couple of furlongs Annie Moyles took up the running, with the favourite, and Fallon looking for a quick double, Chincoteague running in second.

Chincoteague hit the front two out, but seemingly for pressure, with Magnitude and Quadrifolio the challengers.

Chincoteague was still ahead inside the final furlong but Steve Drowne on Magnitude was determined to make a battle of it.

The pair were locked together approaching the line but Magnitude just got his nose in front ehere it mattered.

Marino Prince made some late progress to take third spot 1¼ lengths behind the front pair.

Annie Moyles dropped out of contention very quickly, almost as if something was amiss, coming home a tailed off last.

Duke Of Normandy was always in rear and most disappointing.

19:34 Almost half way and race three is the Bruntingthorpe Handicap, our longest race of the evening over just shy of 1½ miles.

Ten line up, with Amazing King being the absentee.

Magnitude and Quadrifolio caught the eye in the parade ring.

Street Runner was very slightly on his toes and Annie Moyles had a strange gait – it was almost as though she was about to try and do a runner.

Miss Doodle is a very small filly.

19:31 In the auction after the last race, the winner was bought in for 10,000 Guineas.

19:21 Irish raider Sarahthecarer set a good pace in this seven furlong contest, with Naughty Norris going with her in the early stages.

Also prominent were Lady Compton, Aim’ees Star and Lockantanks.

Half way Sarahthecarer still had the advantage, with Magenta Straight, Alfalevva and, most menacingly, favourite Merchant Of Medici, coming with runs.

A furlong out Kieren Fallon kicked Merchant Of Medici into the lead and it was race over.

Sunrise Lyric appeared from nowhere to battle for minor honours with Alfalevva, getting the verdict by a neck.

Magenta Straight came home fourth, with the front running Sarahthecarer fifth.

19:10 Race two is our biggest field of the evening as 16 line up for the Stapleford Selling Stakes over 7f.

Bubbly Bellini does not run.

Alfalevva is a head shaker in the parade ring. Hounds Ditch is getting a little bit warm. Magenta Straight is jig-jogging around the parade ring and Sunrise Lyric is on her toes.

Madame Roulin is a big filly, looking more like a national hunt horse.

Otterton was very relaxed in the parade ring.

18:50 A reasonable finish with Methaaly and Fromsong battling to the line.

Town House set the pace with Nomoreblondes prominent, albeit briefly.

Thoughtsofstardom and Fromsong were with the pace halfway.

A furlong out Fromsong had the advantage but Methaaly was coming with a challenge, as was 13-year-old The Tatling.

Methaaly
hit the front in the closing yards to record a neck victory.

The Tatling came home 1½ lengths behind.

Nomoreblondes did rally again in the closing stages to finish fourth.

Favourite Short Cut was never sighted, coming home seventh.

18:31 Our opening contest is the 5f The Langham Ladies’ Handicap Stakes with 10 going to post, including the 13-year-old The Tatling.

Nomoreblondes looked impressive in the parade ring.

Thoughtsofstardom was getting a little bit on his toes

17:49 I have just been for a walk outside and with less than an hour before the first race the place is deserted.

I would be surprised if there are 100 people here.

17:11 Good afternoon from  Leicester where we have broken cloud for this evenings meeting. We still have just the two non-runners.

13:15 ..... and now we have two non-runners.
