09:48 We currently have three non-runners.
13:46 We now have five non-runners.
16:56 Good afternoon from Leicester where we have broken cloud for our six race card.
The non-runner count has now reached seven, full details on the right.
17:49 Our opening contest is the John Fernley Handicap with eight competing in the seven furlong contest.
A few negatives from the parade ring, Call To Arms is pulling hard and Best Trip is on his toes.
18:11 Haatheq won well here on Grand National day and was a well backed favourite this evening, well backed in the final minutes before the race.
If anything his win today, on firmer ground, was more impressive than his last effort.
Best Trip, more a sprinter, set the pace with Avenuesnalleyways in close attendance.
The favourite was settled behind the front pair.
A furlong and a half out Richard Hills asked Haatheq to make his charge and he soon hit the front and it was race over.
Best Trip soon dropped out and Avenuesnalleyways was in second but being challenged by Faithful One, who managed to get her neck in front on the line.
Ferris Wheel was a nice looking horse but did not like the ground.
Call To Arms ran very green.
18:22 Only four in our second contest, all debutants, for the 5f EBF Emil Adam Maiden Stakes.
Plenty of drama in the parade ring as Silver Shine twice broke free, the second time dragging his lass along the ground until she let go of the reins.
This set off Nasharra, who had been calm until that point but then reared himself when Silver Shine kicked off.
Rossetti is getting warm and the favourite, Mujrayaat, is also getting a little warm and is a bit skittish.
To be honest none of then look sure prospects – a race to watch rather than bet in.
18:41 The race lived up to expectations frankly with all four runners showing various amounts of greenness, none more so than the odds-on favourite Mujrayaat, who once in front two out was very green indeed, allowing Nasharra to launch a challenge, taking the lead inside the half furlong.
Once in front he also ran green, jinked to his left, nudging the favourite in the process. The stewards took a look but decided the interference was accidental.
Rossetti ran green early on before the penny dropped. Once the penny did drop he ran on well and will certainly come on for the run.
Silver Shrine, a big market drifter after his parade ring antics, had a good look at the stalls before going in. He was with the pace for the first half of the race before dropping tamely away coming home in his own time.
In truth all four will improve for the runs.
18:53 Our third contest the James Ward Selling Stakes, a few yards over the mile, would have been our biggest field of the evening but with three non-runners only ten line up.
San Silvestro is the parade ring negative, pulling quite hard and with a mouth foaming like a rabid dogs.
Set To Go is a little bit on his toes, whilst Kenswick is another frothing at the mouth.
19:10 A funny sort of race.
Kenswick broke best of all to take an early lead but the Pat Eddery trained filly was soon headed by Sularno and Set To Go.
Meanwhile Bookiebasher Babe was not going to live up to he name as she almost fell out of the stalls and although soon catching up her rivals she made a false step on the home turn and was effectively out of the contest.
Two out Kenswick, who was the best rated horse in the field, ran on with what looked like a winning run.
However Rapid City was living up to his name and he came with rapid late progress to grab a half length victory.
Another making decent late progress was Finsbury, who ran on to take third spot.
Sularno, after leading for over half the contest eventually came home a tailed off last.
19:23 Race four is the G.D. Giles Handicap, just shy of 1¼ miles, with 11 facing the starter.
For the first time this evening no negatives from the parade ring.
Silent Oasis is a rather small horse.
Buddy Holly re-appears three days after his Newmarket win, carrying a 6lb penalty and he was the paddock pick.
19:40 The question was can Buddy Holly win twice in three days, the answer is that will be the day. He came home a brave third but the combination of three days and a six pound penalty was enough to hold him, although he lost nothing in defeat.
Honours went to the favourite Feathered Crown, tucked in behind the leaders and making progress to hit the front two out.
Course specialist Snowed Under set the pace, only to fade two out.
Pelham Crescent made late progress, running into second a furlong out and retaining that position at the line.
19:54 Our penultimate race is the six furlong Sartorious Maiden Stakes in which a dozen compete for glory.
Gold Gleam was getting a little warm in the parade ring, Major Eradicator was biting his bit, Vertumnus was pulling slightly. Correlandie was a bit on her toes when she first came into the parade ring but soon settled down.
20:08 There was a very late plunge for Dever Dream (sorry I could not get to my laptop in time to report it) and the William Haggas filly managed to get the better of a battle with deposed favourite Vanilla Run by half a length.
The party was almost spoiled by Suzy Alexander who came with a late run – arguably had Seb Sanders begun his challenge a little bit earlier the filly may have troubled the front pair.
Force To Spend set the early pace but ended up a spent force, coming home sixth.
Correlandie missed the break terribly conceding ten lengths to her rivals and did well to actually beat one home.
20:20 Our final contest is the Henry Alken Handicap, our longest race of the evening being a few yards short of 1½ miles. With Apache Kid being the absentee, we have seven due to enter the stalls.
20:42 I wonder if Corr Point is another Jamie Osbourne handicap coup – making his handicap debut off bottom weight and attracting late each-way market support he was settled behind the leaders before hitting the front three out.
The pacesetter had been Blinka Me who did not give up when headed and although having no chance once the winner had hit the front he battled on well.
Indeed he battled on in more ways than one as Gay Mirage was upsides inside the final half furlong and judge Brian Goodwill had to consult the camera to split them, with Gay Mirage getting the verdict by a nose.
The favourite Bondage failed to impress, somewhat tied up finishing fourth. Having said that teh favourite was done no favours turning out of the back straight when Gay Mirage came off the rail and Bondage ran into the back of her.
20:47 That’s it from a peasant summers evening at Leicester.
A reasonable crowd for a reasonable evening’s racing and it was good to see we had a big screen this evening.
We will be changing code tomorrow when we go national hunt racing at Towcester, until then good evening.
