17:48 That’s it from the marathon card in the sun at Leicester. Nothing really spectacular on show from an equine viewpoint.
Our eyecatcher from Goodwood, Sabotage, duly won as expected but most of the favourites were disappointing.
I have to say for a Monday afternoon we had a pretty good crowd.
Our next live coverage is from Nottingham on Wednesday.
17:46 A mile and a half handicap to finish our bumper card this evening and it has to be said it was something of a messy race.
The favourite Blue Dynasty really made Jim Crowley earn his riding fee, being a double handful throughout, never settling then, for a final indignity, dumping him after the line. Crowley was sitting on the ground looking bemused, eventually walking away.
In the main contest Vita Mia set the early pace, leading until the turn for home, before Kochanski took up the running.
We then saw a couple of running on contenders, firstly Water Hen, whose challenge was brief and flattered to deceive.
The second running on contender was Deuce who joined in the action in the final furlong, which also saw Vita Mia taking advantage of a handy weight and the firm going and running on to regain the lead.
Deuce, appropriately, took second spot although he was closing on the leader with every stride, eventually failing by three parts of a length.
The favourite, Persian Memories, who was disappointing, was doing his best work at the end, just denying Kochanski third spot.
17:12 Back to seven furlongs for race seven and another agonising result for favourite backers as Perfect Friend was done in the final strides by Tikka Masala, a somewhat appropriate result on a hot afternoon in Leicester.
Superstitious Me set the pace for most of the contest, with Perfect friend coming with a seemingly decisive run approaching one out. However Richard Kingscote managed to get the stands rail and ran on well to grab a neck victory on the line.
Yughanni was a shock 50/1 third.
16:41 Four runners in the mile and a half contest and Mark Johnston had two of them, the favourite Sabotage and a newcomer Spirit is Needed.
Spirit Is Needed set off in front followed by his stablemate, but after three furlongs Spirit Is Needed pulled up and was bought back in the horse ambulance.
Sabotage, once in front, was never headed and won comfortably, once Greg Fairley asked for an effort approaching the furlong marker.
The battle ended up being for second spot with Birdintehhand getting the better of Times Up, with the latter seeming to settle for third rather sooner than one would expect.
16:30 Our eyecatcher, Sabotage, is the definite paddock pick for our mile and a half contest.
16:11 This is a long meeting on a hot afternoon, as we begin the second half of the card with a 1¼ mile claimer.
The possible favourite, Samurai Warrior was a non-runner and this left us with Maddy and Solo River as the joint favourites.
Henry Cecil’s Tried And True set the pace but faded as they turned for home. This left Gasat in front but he only led until a furlong out and he pulled up inside the final furlong.
Solo River set for home a furlong out and the race was over as contest, although Princleywallywogan tried to mount a challenge but was unable to mount a serious challenge, coming home six lengths behind the winner.
Joint favourite Maddy came home a further nine lengths back in third.
15:37 A four runner seven furlong conditions stake.
Very little to report except that Catherine Gannon made all on the favourite Carcinetto, coming home seven lengths clear of her rivals, although the horse did hang when under pressure.
Qalahari ran on three out to take the runners-up spot, with Max One Two Three, who tracked the leader, finishing third.
15:12 This is not turning out to be a good afternoon for favourite backers as, once again, a favourite looks destined to win, only to be headed in the closing stages, although in this 1¼ mile contest the defeat was slightly more emphatic than in the last.
Pride Of Kings was the vanquished favourite on this occasion and Mister Dee Bee was the fly in the ointment on this occasion.
Multiplication took a strong hold to set the pace, although by the time they turned for home she had settled. Pride Of Kings tracked the leader and ran on approaching a furlong from home and it looked to be race over.
Mister Dee bee had run an erratic race, settled in third he looked to be beaten half a mile out but ran on again as they approached the two marker, eventually hitting the front inside the final yards to record a quarter length victory.
14:47 If there was a price for the most inappropriately named runner this afternoon then the prize must go to Minnimum Fuss. She had to be led to the start and the nearer she got the more stubborn she became, eventually delaying the start by a couple of minutes.
Just to cap it off she reared coming out of the stalls and was never in contention.
The race itself caused more pain for favourite backers as Strathmore looked to have the race sewn up after taking up the running two out. However All You Need, a 20/1 shot had other ideas and having the stands rail David Kenny produced a well timed run to grab victory on the line.
Abhainn was two lengths further back in third.
14:24 Another 6f contest for our second.
Bilboa was very much on his toes in the parade ring, August Days also looked to be walking on hot coals.
14:16 Well it turned out to be a good race with our two paddock eyecatchers, Jira and Warning Song, taking first and third spots.
However more impressive was the recalcitrant Party Doctor, who despite his antics in the parade ring, knew exactly what was required on the track and he only just failed to catch the winner going down by a diminishing head.
Magneto set the early pace after getting a flyer from the stalls and was soon being chased by the eventual first three home and, to be honest the winner always looked like coming from these four.
Approaching the furlong marker Seb Sanders asked Jira for an effort and the filly was soon clear and looked to be home and hosed.
However Richard Kingscote did not give up Party Doctor and was closing the gap as the line approached.
The favourite was five lengths further back in third, unable to make any impression on the front two.
Fourth placed Capacity was a further 9¼ lengths back, showing the quality of the first three home.
Connections of the winner are unsure as to whether they will go to Ascot with the filly as they say they have some better contenders at home.
13:54 A two year old contest to get us under way and several newcomers.
Party Doctor, making his debut from the Tom Dascombe yard, was very much on his toes, rearing and at one time breaking free in the parade ring. Luckily he was soon caught.
Two eye catchers are Amanda Perrett’s Warning Song and Clive Brittain’s Jira.
13:01 Good afternoon from Leicester where we have a gloriously hot sunny afternoon. We have two more non-runners, both in the 4:00, reducing it to seven runners.
10:31 We currently have four non-runners, details on the right.
Unfortunately they both adversely impact the betting, as the 4:30 now becomes a four runner contest, therefore win only and the final contest reduces from ten to seven runners, becoming each way on the first two only.
07:32 I'm sure it will not come as a total surprise to hear it has been a dry night at Leicester and a sunny day is forecast.
The official going is Good to Firm, Firm in Places (watering).
This afternoon one of our eyecatchers, Sabotage, runs in the 4:30 contest, one of eight races this afternoon's card.
