15:55 That’s it from Leicester, typical mid-week fare, not helped at all by the going.
Our next live action will be from Sandown, until the a very good and chilly afternoon.
15:52 Something of a shock result in the finale with two running on horses taking the first two places giving us a 33/1 winner in the shape of Ruby Crown who came from virtually nowhere to take the lead at the last.
Almost as impressive was the runner up, who came from even further back, in the shame of Chaim.
High Life looked to be in with half a chance two out but was headed into third by Cordier.
15:18 Another chase and this one just short of three miles. It actually produced quite a good finish considering the distance and going.
Kate’s Gift took up the running at the third and bravely held on to win by two lengths, after looking
to be in trouble two out with the favourite Phoudamour jumping alongside. However the latter was looking tired and it wasn’t the biggest surprise when he took a heavy fall at the last (from which he walked away after being down for quite a while)
North Island also looked to be a challenger at the last but he blundered through the top, ending his chances.
On the run in Kate’s Gift did enough but the battle for second place was more intense with Minella Four Star running on best of all to head Mutual Respect and the unlucky North Island.
All in all a most enjoyable race.
14:53 The fourth race was one of those where it is somewhat disingenuous to call it a contest.
In truth it was a procession, with the favourite Latanier going for a pillar to post victory increasing his lead with every stride and never really challenged. The winner put in a good show of jumping with the only mistakes being tired ones at the last two flights.
The winner came home 12 lengths clear of Bugsy’s Boy, who got to within a couple of lengths at the end of the back straight, along with Grandage. The latter virtually pulling himself up in the home straight.
Reasontobecheerful who was a long way last halfway, ran on past tired horses to take third.
14:22 An interesting contest for our opening chase. A decimated field with five non-runners reducing the field to six.
Pacco was sent off the favourite but was never in contention and ran a disappointing race, possibly unhappy in the conditions.
A brace of horses were looking for hat tricks, so something had to go. It was the hat trick seekers High Jack and Ours who jumped the last together.
High Jack had taken up the running four out, from the long time leader Rookery Lad and two out he had what looked to be an unassailable lead.
However Ours, running on soft going for he first time, did not seem at all inconvenienced and closed the gap with every stride.
In the run in High Jack had nothing more to give and Ours won comfortably.
Favourite Pacco finished a long way back in third.
13:54 The second event may only have bee a seller but watching the reaction of connections to the winner you would have thought we had just witnessed the Gold Cup.
Monsieur Georges has been a perennial loser but today he finally got his head in front at the 19th attempt.
If one was going to be churlish one could say the slight mistake made by the favourite Low Delta when leading aided the winners chances, however that is being very churlish and perhaps a little unfair on the winner.
Milton Des Bieffes set the pace which, bearing in mind the conditions, was a sensible one. As in the first the field were well bunched until the pace began to quicken.
The winner ran on well as did Carpe Momentum, although the latter flattered to deceive.
13:20 Well the ground is testing as the runners came home strung out in our opener. Having said that they were well bunched for most of the race but when the pace picked up the ground took its toll.
Monkhair set the pace but was kept company by Mvuto most of the race.
Monkhair held the lead until fading two out.
This left matters to the favourite Mvuto who was joined by Purely By Chance, who had tracked the leaders.
At the last they were side by side but as they came up the run in Wayne Hutchinson managed to get more out of Purely By Chance to record a 1¼ length victory.
Eleven lengths further back was Janet’s Delight who was making eye catching late progress.
12:50 Well the snow may have missed Leicester but the rain didn't and it is going to be really difficult for the runners this afternoon.
10:18 Racing at Leister goes ahead but there is a signficant change in the going, on the chase course it is Soft and on the hurdle course Heavy.
As a consequence we have a large number of non-runners, eleven so far, but expect more. Details on the right
