17:55 That's it from Leicester tonight, where we have had almost every weather you can think of from monsoon rains through to brilliant sunshine. A variable standard of racing with some, to be honest, dross but also some nice nuggets shining through as well.
Tomorrow, weather permitting, we shall be at Navan.
From Leicester good evening.
17:46 Well Godolphin may have missed out on a double in the divided maiden stakes, however they did complete a first / last race double as the reasonably well backed Sirocco Breeze took the finale with something in hand.
Tracking the leaders initially, the winner was one of four abreast fighting for the lead a furlong and a half out.
A furlong out Dettori asked the question and the colt ran on well.
Amylee, who was one of those with the pace, took the runners-up spot four lengths behind and the favourite Pivka finished third another three parts of a length behind.
17:19 Back to seven furlongs for our last two events and the first of them was the second division of the maiden and it was certainly a stronger renewal than the first with many of the top stables represented.
It looked as though Godolphin were going to win both divisions of the race as Frankie Dettori sent Mezenah to the front inside the final furlong. However champion jockey elect Ryan Moore launched Sir Michael Stoute’s July Jasmine with a late run to grab victory on the line.
Both these debutants looked impressive. Another debutante, Spring Adventure, ran on with an impressive turn of third to take third.
Best of those with experience was Kevin Ryan’s Bessie Lou who finished fourth.
This is a race worth viewing again and again as it is going to produce future winners.
16:53 A six furlong handicap for out sixth race and Diminuto got a flyer out of the stalls and established a good lead under David Probert.
It looked as though we were going to witness a pillar to post victory from the filly, but Hurricane Harriet came with a rattling late run under Oscar Urbina to claim a 1½ length victory, with what has been the most impressive run so far this afternoon.
Diminuto held on to take the runners up spot. Doric Lady and Night Premier were involved in a battle for third with the judge giving the verdict to the former.
16:26 The feature race of the afternoon was the Ladbrokes.com Quorn Handicap over a mile and a half.
Eddie Ahern on Goodwood Starlight set the reasonable pace, taking the lead in the first furlong.
As they turned for home Goodwood Starlight dropped out of contention leaving Manyriverstocross in the lead.
A furlong and a half from home the race was quite open with Manyriverstocross, the favourite Torphichen and Electrolyser line abreast and the royal runner Kingdom Of Fife not far behind.
Manyriverstocross was the first to fade, leaving the favourite briefly in front. However Electrolyser soon got his head in front and looked to be a clear winner until Mezzanisi came from the pack with a late challenge but it was too late. Kingdom Of Fife pipped the favourite for third place.
Disappointment of the race was Luca Cumani’s Kossack who had been tipped up in the morning but the ground may have gone against him and after going wide on the home turn Jamie Spencer bought him home in his own time to finish ninth.
15:53 The first thing to mention about this race is the weather. As they turned for home they ran through heavy rain. As they crossed the line the rain reached the enclosures and it is now lashing down.
The race itself was a good result for second favourite backers as Dazzling Begum was produced with a well timed run by Jimmy Quinn.
Veronicas Way set the pace although it is debatable if jockey Kelly Harrison had any say in the matter as the filly seemed to be taking a strong hold. A furlong out it looked as though it was going to be a pillar to post run but the filly just stopped and was soon down the field.
Up front a great battle was building up as Ricci De Mare, Oronsay and Dazzling Begum were line abreast fifty yards out. In a driving finish it was the favourite who grabbed the spoils from Ricci De Mare, half a length behind and Oronsay the same distance behind.
15:18 The 1¼ mile Ladbrokes.com Squirrel Conditions stakes only had four runners with the defection of Blazing Buck.
Mark Johnston’s Alcalde was sent off the 8/13 favourite and, in typical style for a Johnston runner, set off with a front running performance.
All went to plan but in the final couple of furlongs he had to fight off the challenges of first of all Le Grand Amour then Heliodor, the leader not helping his cause by drifting left.
In the end he only prevailed by half a length.
The other runner, Bounty Reef, was always behind.
14:50 A seven furlong apprentice handicap for our second race and it has to be said a fairly uninspiring bunch of horses lining up.
The betting was tight with four 5/1 co-favourites.
It was one of the co-favourites who obliged in the form of Ken’s Girl ridden by Louis-Philippe Beuzelin. It has to be said the winning filly looked the most impressive of the field, only coming under any pressure in the final fifty yards, all the others were under the cosh long before the closing stages.
Indeed only Bidable only offered any sort of challenge in the closing stages and even then never came within a length of the winner.
The runner-up and winner were the only ones to be with the pace throughout. Having A Ball was a running on third , whilst the other front runners Prince Golan and Flying Flute faded.
14:20 It isn’t every day that Frankie Dettori and Godolphin turn up for a mid-week meeting at Leicester as they did this afternoon.
Some canny backers twigged and were happy to back the horse in from 6/1 to 9/2 and they were rewarded as Frankie came with a late run to grab the opening maiden fillies stakes on Burgundy Ice
Two runners vies for favouritism with Peter Chapple-Hyam’s West With The Wind getting the edge over Piquante.
These two were to the fore throughout the race and were involved in a photograph at the finish – sadly for punters the photograph was for third place, with the favourite just edging it.
Second place went to the second string of the three Hamdan Al Maktoum runners, Hukba, another who was running well at the end.
13:49 Quite a few non-runners this afternoon, mostly down to the going, details are on the right.
13:18 Good afternoon from Leicester on a rather dreak afternoon. Although not raining there is a nasty drizzle in the air.
The official going is Soft, good to soft in places
