20:50 Racing has been Cancelled as the course is unsafe. That's all from a wet Leicester
20:30 A delegation of stewards, jockeys and trainers have just been to inspect the far bend and they are deliberating whether to abandon the final two races.
The last two races are scheduled to be run on the round course and in the earlier race on the round course a horse did slip.
20:20 For a five furlong sprint the runners were hung out like the washing – talking of washing it is very much washing weather with the rain falling steadily all evening.
Lucky Redback was the well supported favourite and the colt managed to get a flying start under Richard Hughes. Once in the lead he was never really challenged, although Churchills Victory flattered to deceive half way.
As they passed the furlong pole the race was effectively over as a contest with the runners coming home in Indian file.
It is difficult to assess the winner on this performance. Yes he won convincingly and he had the field well strung out – the question is what has he beaten?
19:50 It is now 2-1 for the punters with the very well backed Wikandoo taking the mile handicap but like the previous race he had to do it the hard way, just getting up on the line.
The Kevin Ryan trained runner, running with a 6lb penalty was backed into a shade of odds-on.
Unbeaten Avertis was a terrible drifter in the market, opening at 7/2 and eventually going off at 7/1.
In the race itself, after a very level break it was Desiderio under Charles Eddery who set the pace and by the two furlong marker had begun to establish a decent and potentially race winning lead.
The favourite came from the bunch and eventually wore the leader down on the line to take the spoils by ½ a length.
The running on Avertis took third, and looks one to follow over further in future.
These three finished well clear of the remainder.
19:21 A very messy race for our second. The form book will say the favourite Rockfield Lodge won the race, but that doesn’t tell the full story. The favourite fell out of the stalls and started behind the rest of the field. When forced by Neil Pollard to make a challenge inside the final two he hung badly left. Luckily a gap appeared and under a very forceful ride he got up just before the line to win by a somewhat flattering length.
There was a photograph for the places where Lord Deevert under Jack Dean just nabbed the unlucky Samurai Warrior on the line. The latter took the lead two out and looked the winner right until the dying strides.
18:50 Then again perhaps I should be a bookmaker. The opening race was a one horse race according to the betting with Miss Daawe the well backed favourite.
However it was the 66/1 shot Town House, who has not won for four years who took the race in good style and in all honesty it was no fluke. Anna Wallace broke well and bought the mare to the near rail and led from start to finish. Fellow front runner Roman Quintet made sure she had to battle all the way to the line.
The eyecatcher was the running on Baybshambles. The favourite has no excuses and could have won if good enough, eventually she finished fourth.
18:30 John Kettley eat your heart out, my forecast has proved correct and the rain has started. Perhaps my future lies with the Met Office?
18:10 The official going tonight is Good To Firm and I forgot to mention in the weather update that there is a very strong breeze here this evening.
17:30 Good evening from a muggy Leicester where it is currently dry but with some nasty grey clouds in the distance.
We currently have four non-runners, details on the right.
