17:54 That is it from Kempton park and their final jumps meeting of the 2010/2011 season. Not the highest quality meeting but some exciting finishes nonetheless. One bit of housekeeping, Chris Geoghegan picked up a two day whip ban for excessive frequency of the whip on Rare Symphony. We’re off to the Midlands tomorrow as we go to Warwick, until then a very good afternoon. 17:50 Well there was to be no fairy tale for the 15-year-old as he was only able to finish a very tired third in an incident packed race in which only four of the nine finished. The old-boy Jurado Express set out to make all under Alan Berry, although he wasn’t allowed to have everything his own was as Cloud Nine kept him company. Westcoat Lad’s race was over very quickly as he unseated his rider at the first. Not much happened for another circuit then we had a spate of dramatic departures. As Jurado Express and Cloud Nine approached the open ditch on the side of the course Silver Adonis (winner of last year’s Aintree Foxhunters) sent his rider out of the side door when vying for third spot with Ryeman. Ryman then went at the next giving his rider a pretty hefty unseating. The drama was not over as at the next fence Cloud Nine, still vying for the lead managed to unseat his rider, leaving Jurado Express well clear in front. Jurado Express still had a decent lead over I Have Dreamed and Sovereign King turning for home but began to show signs of tiring, despite having a lead from lose runners. By three out I Have Dreamed had taken up the running and Jorado Express briefly rallied. I Have Dreamed pulled well clear though and eventually came home 30 lengths clear of Sovereign King who was an easy second with Jorado Express a further 14 lengths back in third. The only other finisher was Calgary Jock, with Pelennor pulling up approaching two out. 17:27 We conclude with a Hunters’ chase, the Marley Eternit Fired Sienna Hunters’ Chase, an extended 2½ mile contest with nine going to post. All eyes will be on 15-year-old Jurado Express, winner of this race for the last three years and well beyond the veteran’s stage . . . he looked really relaxed in the parade ring. Cloud Nine was pulling quite hard in the parade ring. 17:11 This is not the day to be a bookmaker as yet another favourite comes in, this time the bottom weight Rare Symphony. Approaching the last it looked as though she would be beaten as Right Stuff was looking good in front with Decision also ahead. Right Stuff wasn’t particularly fluent at the last allowing Rare Symphony to take up the running and although the other pair battled up the run-in the favourite had enough in hand to hold on by 1½ lengths. Decision, who led for most of the contest, did well to come home second, burdened with a 7lb penalty for a recent Taunton win. Right Stuff had to settle for third.
16:49 Race six is the Sikaspec Conditional Jockeys Novices’ Handicap Hurdle a two mile contest with eight going to post. Nothing to report from the parade ring.16:38 For the second race running we have a runner completing a three timer, this time Rileyev despite his sweating and another missed winner for Aidan Coleman. It was a strange race tactically as Uncle Ant and Riddleoifthesands set off like bats out of hell at a suicidal pace. By the time they went out on the final circuit the field were strung out over about 40 lengths. Uncle Ant soon cracked but Riddleofthesands was still thereabouts turning for home and he still managed to come home in fourth spot, which was impressive in the circumstances. Wessex King hit the front approaching the last on the far side but his lead was short lived as Rileyev swept past to lead on the bend. Once in front Rileyev had the race sewn up. Clouseau looked a potential challenger, making progress turning for home but that challenge came to nothing.
16:21 Another chase now as eight take part in the Flag-Soprema Waterproofing Classic Handicap Chase, over the minimum two miles. Rileyev, now ridden by Sam Thomas, is sweating between his legs (Rileyev that is ....not Sam).16:08 After the bookies day at Lingfield yesterday it is turning into a backers benefit this afternoon as Pere Blanc came home the most impressive winner of the afternoon – bearing in mind the way he has risen through the weights after two wins, claiming a three length victory under substitute rider Jason Maguire. I’ve Been Framed set the pace with Gee Dee Nen and Georgian King the initial challengers, until Georgian King fell at the third flight. The horse was quickly up but it took rider Denis O’Regan a few minutes to get up before walking away gingerly. Sparrow Hills took over his challenging position. It wasn’t until the end of the far side that Pere Blanc came on the scene, by which time Sophies Trophy had taken up the running with Sparrow Hills challenging. By the time they turned for home Pere Blanc was in front. He had to be chivvied along to defy his handicap but the result was never really in doubt. Ostland battled on best of all to take second spot, with Phoenix Flight back in third. 15:46 The SFS Intec New Generation Handicap Hurdle, another 2m 5f contest , with 12 going to post. Ned Ludd is an absolute sod in the parade ring, pulling terribly. Ostland is pulling but nothing like Ned Ludd. I’ve Been Framed is getting warm.
15:30 Despite jumping left, at some flights frighteningly so, and hanging for most of the race Basford Bob managed to follow-up his Uttoxeter victory on Saturday, although he had to fight hard for victory. Setting out to make all his lead varied from several lengths to being briefly headed by Lion On The Prowl going out on the final circuit. Turning for home it looked as though Romulus D’Artaix was going to be the main challenger but he could not get close enough. It was Lion On The Prowl who found a second wind to launch a challenge and both jumped left at the last and drifted across to the stands rail. It was a good battle to the line with Basford Bob just holding on by a neck. Romulus D’Artaix was a further four back in third.
15:11 Race three is the You Can’t lose –Skyline Roofing Novices’ Hurdle over 2m 5f with eight going to post. Lion On The Prowl is pulling, Neltara has two handlers and is a head shaker, Rebelious is getting a little warm.
14:53 A battle between the top two in the market in the closing stages with the market almost getting it right. Ratify, under substitute rider Sam Thomas, set the pace until paying the price and fading as they turned for home, whereupon the favourite Psi took up the running. Turning for home it looked like a formality for the favourite but second favourite Lordsbridge, who had always been prominent, seemed to find a second wind and was running on approaching two out. By the last Lordsbridge was jumping into the lead and Psi seemed to have nothing left in the tank and was unable to respond, going down by 3½ lengths. Approved Force came home third, 12 lengths further back, with Ratify just holding off Lady Bling Bling for fourth. Platin Grounds was never in the race, soon well behind and eventually pulled up.
14:35 Race two is the Liquid Plastics Leaders Novices’ Handicap Chase over the extended 2½ miles with six lining up. The top two in the weights are the negatives. Approved Force is using unapproved force against his two handlers, pulling very hard. Platin Grounds was shaking his head quite vigorously as well. Ratify is the paddock pick.
14:23 Sad to report the drunken morons are out in force here at Kempton ... big cheer in one area when Raya Star fell - horse OK though. Raya Star was the only casualty in the contest which produced a two horse battle up the run-in. Smart Catch, who had been with the pace throughout had a narrow advantage at the last but the favourite Shuil Royale was upsides and put in a better jump to lead coming out of the flight. There was a battle before Shuil Royale pulled clear, looking to have plenty in hand, to record a length victory. Croan Rock who had led from the second until approaching two out plugged on for third. 14:05 Our opening contest is the Kinnell And Certass ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle over two miles with 10 due to face the starter. Croan Rock and Toulaman are both big horses, more like chasers. Monroe Park was generally well behaved, apart from a single fly-kick. Shuil Royale was pulling slightly and Somewhatinevitable is a head shaker. 13:38 After events at Lingfield yesterday we have no Aidan Coleman here, so Sam Thomas rides Ratify in the 14:40, Jason Maguire rides Pere Blanc in the 15:50. Still waiting on news as to who rides Rileyev in the 16:25 13:31 The going stick is 7.3 on the chase and 7.2 on the hurdle. That bears out my feeling from walking the course. The chase course definately good and there a bit more give on the hurdle course. 12:40 Good afternoon from an overcast Kempton Park. There are currently two non-runners. 10:47 We have our first non-runner of the day. 07:52 It has been a dry night and a warm day is forecast. The official going is Good There is a dual bend configuration in use today. 7mm of water was applied yesterday from start of back straight to winning post.
