Racing Live - Kempton 12th February 2010

18:30 Normal service now resumed and a new power supply for the laptop.

An interesting afternoons racing at Kempton although the defeat of Quantitiativeeasing came as something of a surprise.

We have another Super Saturday tomorrow and we will be at Warwick tomorrow, with half an eye on the action at Newbury.

16:40 We still have the bumper left but the battery is getting low, so we will provide the result here later.

16:38 A cracking finish to our final contest over obstacles with Nicto De Beauchene having a grand battle with Le Burf and winning it by 1¼ lengths.

It was one of those contests where the lead was constantly changing with Hopkins, Le Burf and Nicto De Beauchene all taking it in turn to lead.

By the time they turned for home it was a two horse race with Le Burf and Nicto De Beauchene well clear of their rivals.

Polyfast made some progress turning for home, although he was never athreat to the last two and the advance came to nothing, finishing only fifth.

15:58 Duc De Regniere is clearly a horse who loves Kempton Park as he makes it four from five in the Graduation Chase.

A very small question mark over the win as Big Fella Thanks, running over a distance shorter than ideal, was making progress when unseating Ruby Walsh two out, although whether he would have been a serious threat is a moot point.

William Hill have cut the winners price from 6/1to 5/1 for the Racing Post Trophy, run here at the end of this month.

15:26 A terrible looking contest on paper and a pretty dire race in reality.

It was a one horse race according to the market with Over The Flow sent off the 11/4 favourite and it was 6/1 bar.

French Leave and the favourite set out to make the pace and were still leading as the field turned for home.

It was then the complexion of the race changed.

AP McCoy came with a threatening run on Bobble Hat Bob and hit the front approaching two out. Lady Bling Bling who had been prominent but then found a second wind ran on as the challenger and approaching the last Leighton Aspell propelled the mare to the front and was soon well clear.
McCoy was unable to respond on Bobble Hat Boy.

Nothing else was able to match the runs of the first two with The Disengager doing best of the rest to come home third 12 and 6 lengths behind the first pair respectively.

Alternator, the second favourite, came home for each way punters with the favourite coming home fifth.

14:50 Well something of a shock as the highly touted Cheltenham fancy Quantitativeeasing failed to win the Betdaq Poker Novices’ Hurdle as expected.

Evan Williams Phidippides set out to make all, chased by The Betchworth Kid.

AP McCoy spent most of the contest trying to restrain the hard pulling Quantitativeeasing and it is questionable how much energy Nicky Henderson’s runner used up.

Turning for home McCoy bought Quantitativeeasing to the front to challenge the long time leader, however Phidippides was not prepared to be headed as Paul Moloney pushed his charge for home.
McCoy, as is his wont, did his best to drive Quantitativeeasing past the Williams horse but to no avail.

Phidippides
held on by a neck to claim a deserved victory.

14:28 The, for many, highlight of the afternoon next with Quantitativeeasing running in the Betdaq Poker Novices’ Hurdle a 2m 5f contest with six runners.

14:12 A good ding-dong battle up the run in with Summery Justice under Aiden Coleman just getting the better of Tom Siddall on the favourite Dover’s Hill.

The pair swapped places a few times in the final furlong and a half but it was Coleman who had his mounts neck in front where it mattered.

Dover’s Hill had been to the fore throughout, battling with Fiftyonefiftyone, who came home well back in third.

Robert Thornton’s race on Epidavros was very brief, unseating at the first and Superior Wisdom fell two out.

13:55 Next up the extended 2m 4f Betdaqextra.com Beginners Chase with eight runners. Dover's Hill was getting warm in the parade ring.

13:39 A tidy win for Qaspal, settled for most of the contest before making progress to lead after two out.

Apache Chant emerged as the challenger but never looked like striking a serious blow, with the front pair finishing seven clear of the remainder.

Minor honours went to running on horses with Dean’s George and, particularly, Arctic Ben making eye catching late progress.

Favourite Lepido, in with every chance if good enough, could only manage fourth.

Early pacesetter Solent pulled up half way down the back straight.

13:20 The opener is the 2m Betdaq.co.uk Conditional Jockeys Handicap Hurdle with 16 going to post.

Some confusion in the parade ring as we had two No 10's - adds to the fun.

11:39 Good morning from Kempton Park where it is chilly and overcast. An apology but updates this afternoon will be limited as the mains power supply on my laptop has died and I am running on battery power only, so will need to conserve power.

09:44 and then there were four!!

09:31 ... and another non-runner.

08:52 Two non-runners so far, both in the opener, details on the right.
