Racing Live - Kempton 19th November 2008

21:50 Apologies for the break in live coverage, this was due to technical difficulties.

The 7:20 race followed a similar pattern to the earlier races with the front running Gaily Noble being overhauled by the running on Dialect in the final stages, to win by a neck. Dialect was sent off the 11/4 joint favourite , along with Three Ducks who stayed on in the final stages but only managed to finish third.

The big race at 7:50 saw some odd betting on the favourite Bonus, which opened at 11/4, drifted out to 7/1 then was backed into 2/1 favouritism just before the off. Although having said that it was a very weak market and the only “large” bets recorded were a handful of £500 bets. As it happened Bonus was always in the rear and never at the races, a most disappointing run.

Gay Kelleway’s Mr Lambros set the pace and to illustrate just how fast they were finishing in this race the horse was relegated from second to sixth in the final fifty yards. Confuchias was the one who finished best of all. The original favourite Red Alert Day finished fourth.

The 8:20 saw another close finish with Piccolo Diamante just getting the better of Megalo Maniac and Takitwo in a driving finish.

Whereas the 8:50 saw the most emotional victory of the evening. Veteran trainer Geoff Wragg has been training more years than anyone could care to remember and as his career is coming to an end Convallaria may well be his final runner ever. In the closest finish of the evening Chris Catlin just managed to get the mares nose in front on the line to beat the favourite Solicitude by a short head.

It is just a great pity there was virtually nobody to greet the winner when she returned to the winners enclosure.

The final event saw another favourite taking the runners-up spot as Silaah was beaten by a relatively convincing 1¼ lengths by Tim Easterby’s Dazzling Bay.

19:04  Race three, our longest of the night, produced a short price favourite in the shape of the Marcus Tregonning trained Yab Adee, given a confident ride by Martin Dwyer and winning impressively by five lengths.

The pace was set by Martingrange Lass, with the favourite happy to track and you were always left with the impression of when, not if, the favourite would run on.

The run came two out and when it came it was decisive with the race over in a matter of strides with the winner sure to visit the winners enclosure again in the future.

The runner-up Dontpaytheferryman was also eye catching, being last for the majority of the race and when asked to run on turning for home the gelding responded well and whilst never challenging the winner he showed a good turn of foot.

18:30 Up to six furlongs for our second event and once again it was three running on runners who fought out what proved to be a very exciting finish.

Bazguy and Angel Voices set the early pace but as they turned for home it looked as though the front two had run their race as Came Back took up the running and had a good lead.

Professor Malone, who started badly, came with what looked to be an eye catching run against the far rail but, in truth, flattered to deceive.

The favourite Little Edward was running on well and looked a possible winner but both Brandywell Boy and a resurgent Bazguy were running on strongly and in a diving finish Brandywell Boy beat the favourite by a short head with Bazguy a length further back in third.

17:55 A somewhat uninspiring Class 6 sprint handicap to get us under way and a very open betting heat with three runners Bishopbriggs, Desert Opal and Bountiful Bay sent off the 4/1 co-favourites.

The early pace was set by the filly Edie Superstar, who was reluctant to enter the stalls and Bluebok.

However as is often the case in sprints at Kempton the eventual contenders came with late runs and it was two of the co-favourites who fought out the finish with Desert Opal getting the better of Bountiful Bay in a good finish by a length.

Bluebok held on to keep third place.

Bishopbriggs was never in contention.

16:48 Good evening from Kempton Park, where the weather is dry but somewhat chilly.

The going is, of course, Standard.

We currently have nine non-runners, details on the right.
