17:18 That's it from Huntingdon, tomorrow we shall be at Warwick.
Until then good evening.
17:15 A Hunters’ Chase to finish off proceedings over three miles, with eight runners.
Star Double set off to make all and led for nearly all of the contest, before tiring in the final half mile.
The veteran, Take A Stand, now 13, was the most well known runner in the field but his jumping was not that tidy and he was never in contention.
The betting had this as a two horse race and it was the top two in the betting Menchikov and You Do The Math who were tracking the leader and were the pair who went ahead as they turned for home.
You Do The Math had first run but Menchikov was having a go but unable pass the leader and You Do The Math held on to claim a ¾ length victory.
The front running Star Double was 21 lengths further back in third.
The winner is now off to the Foxhunters at the Festival.
16:43 Our biggest field of the afternoon and the first thing to report is McCoy’s trip was in vain as Rocky Ryan was never a serious contender.
Kaonkop and Hereditary were the pair to take the field along, although Kanokop soon dropped out as they started the final circuit.
Mr Newton and Gallileo Figaro came to the fore as they came down the back straight for the final time.
As they turned for home Gallileo Figaro had the advantage and a resurgent Heridatary, who looked out of it a while earlier, led the field home as they entered the home straight. With Line Arctic coming with a good looking late run.
Gallileo Figaro had enough in hand though and came home an easy five length winner. Hereditary took the runners-up spot.
Line Arctic ran on to take third place, with Mr Newton in fourth.
16:26 AP McCoy is on the favourite, Rocky Ryan, in the next – the champion jockey’s only ride here this afternoon.
16:09 A three mile handicap chase for our next contest.
Marufo and Peut Etre Sivola set the pace and led for most of the contest before the former faded five out.
Peut Etre Sivola stayed in contention but faced late challenges from Kitski, By George and Nacimo.
The latter soon dropped out of contention.
Kitski on the other hand ran on well taking up the running coming to the last with By George also looking a danger and it was this pair who battles out the finish.
Throughout the run in it looked as though the favourite, By George, was going to nail the leader, however he just did not seem to want to pass the leader, meaning Kitski came home the neck winner.
The runner-up was very disappointing and the way he would not pass the leader is a concern.
The pair finished nine lengths ahead of Peut Etre Sivola, with Minella Four Star taking fourth.
15:37 Our feature race of the afternoon was the Sidney Banks Memorial Handicap Novices’ Hurdle over 2½ miles.
The handicapper must have been feeling very smug as they came down the back straight as the leaders were five abreast with a few others all in with a chance.
Best backed in the race was McMurrough from Malcolm Jefferson’s yard, however he was never a serious threat, failing to respond when asked for an effort by Graham Lee in the home straight.
It was Paul Webber’s Time For Rupert who took the race, having been settled mid-division early on he was bought to the fore by William Kennedy down the back straight, taking the lead two out.
Cracboumwiz had been settled towards the rear for most of the race before being bought on by Robert Thornton. However try as he may he could not get on terms with the winner, going down by 2 ½ lengths.
Helpson, who had been to the fore throughout finished a further nine lengths back in third.
15:12 A follow up from the 2:20 where Felix De Giles picked up a two day ban for careless riding on Elite Land.
15:01 The novices’ chase was only a race in name, in reality it provided some exercise for Paul Nicholl’s Pasco, a winner last time out at Newbury.
Sent off the 4/11 favourite he won as a horse at such odds should.
Opera De Coeur set the early pace, but the favourite was tracking his every move. Idarah settled in third place, whilst the other three Peak seasons, The Duke’s Speech and King In Waiting settled behind the other three.
Second favourite, The Duke’s Speech was let down my his jumping an dwas never in contention.
Sam Thomas sent Pasco to the front approaching the last and from then on it was just a hack canter.
Opera De Coeur dropped out leaving Idarah in second place and he came home six lengths behind
the winner.
The disappointing The Duke’s Speech just held on for third place.
14:31 A cracking 2m hurdle for our second contest and all credit to 3lb claimer Chris Honour for his enterprising run on Gainsborough’s Art. Setting off in front he soon had a 15 length lead and he was never header, just holding on by a length in a battling finish with Elite Land.
It could be argued that the favourite, Elite Land, was an unlucky looser as Felix De Giles was pushed for room as they turned for home. Had he not briefly lost momentum the result may have been different. However take nothing away from the winner.
Imminent Victory took third place, 4½ lengths behind the first pair and our selection, the well backed Early Wings, took fourth.
14:04 As expected the going looks to be very much slower than the official going suggests, the time of 5’ 37.3” is 45 seconds slower than standard, not all of the time loss can be accounted for by the sedate early pace.
Purely By Chance under Wayne Hutchinson set out to make all, a position held until they entered the home straight, when the challenge came on two sides.
On the left was the favourite Ravello Bay and on the right Alflora Dora, both of them had tracked the leaders throughout.
Two out the favourite may have just got his head in front but not for long as she did not look that resolute and she was certainly not running on like you would expect an odds-on favourite to do.
Indeed approaching the last it was Alflora Dora who had her head in front and an upset looked to be on the cards.
Eventually Barry Geraghty managed to get the favourite to run on in the run-in to claim a one length victory.
Sawpit Solitaire ran on well to grab third place from the tiring Purely By Chance.
Moonlit Path, in the royal colours, was also running on at the end to finish sixth.
13:40 They are in the parade ring for our opener and quite a few look good, not least our favourite Ravello Bay, currently trading at around 4/6.
Midsummer Legend and Tara Whale also look nice.
There are no negatives.
13:17 For those of you who know Huntingdon, the old stand has now disappeared and is now a building site, where construction is starting on a new stand.
13:06 Good afternoon from Huntingdon where the sun is shining.
Just to confirm the open ditch in front of the stands will be omitted in this afternoons races.
Although the official going is good to soft, soft in places I would urge some initial caution. there is a lot of standing water in the centre of the course. There also seemed to be some pretty hefty puddles down by the 2m 5f start.
11:33 Another non-runner to add to the collection
10:40 And here are today's selections
1:50 10 Ravello Bay
2:20 16 Early Wings
2:50 5 The Duke's Speech
3:25 6 McMurrough
3:55 8 Marufo
4:30 9 Diarius
5:00 1 Menchikov (NAP)
10:18 Some large fields at Huntingdon this afternoon where the going is good to soft, soft in places.
Due to unsafe ground the open ditch in front of the stands looks likely to be omitted.
Three non-runners at the moment, details on the right.
