17:19 There is a great deal of information to assimilate when you go racing, non-runners, jockey changes, colour changes. In the last race, a 2m bumper, we had a colour change for Valdelarosa. It was a case of out with the coloured pens and –doing and learning the colours – all for nothing, as Valdelarosa who was a pain going down on debut, planted herself and refused to take any part in the race. Red Hot Joker was certainly red hot and she set the pace under David England, with AP McCoy on the red hot favourite, Alanna Castle, happy to track the leader. It was 1½ furlongs out that McCoy hit the front and it was soon a case of race over. Blazing Empress, under Harry Skelton tried to make a race of it, but to no avail with the jolly coming home by 3½ lengths. 16:46 Only five went to post for our second chase, another 3 mile contest. It was another bad result for punters as the odds-on favourite Manmoon was turned over, going down by 20 lengths to Winsley Hill. Manmoon set the pace and it was Coffee Morning who kept him company, with the eventual winner happy to hack around in his own time. Coming out of the back straight Daryl Jacob had bought Winsley Hill to the quarters of the leader and they entered the home straight together. They were still locked together as they broached the third last fence but Winsley Hill put in the better jump and in a matter of strides is was race over. 16:11 An extended 2m 7f handicap hurdle for our fourth contest. The early part of the contest was muddling with the lead changing hands several times. Eventually it was Tanktastic who emerged the clear leader, a position he held until they turned for home. It was then race began in earnest. Two runners were involved in the final stages with Orion Express and Paddys Honour having a battle, until Orion Express surged into the lead coming home 11 lengths the better of his rival. Patrixbourne came home third. 15:37 The fog lifted enough for us to see most of our first chase, a 3m handicap. AP McCoy tried a front running approach in this contest sending Sea Wall off in front and he held the lead until the run-in where he was out McCoyed by 3lb claimer Nick Schofield on the favourite Dennis The Legend who was produced with a perfectly timed run to deny the champ in the dying stages. Brave Jo kept the leader company for most of the contest, before dropping out tamely in the closing stages. Los Suenos made some late progress to take third, but some 15 lengths behind the principles.
15:04 Well an improvement in our second contest as we were able to see at least half the race this time. Fly With The Stars set off in front and soon established a decent lead, easily six lengths ahead as they passed the post for the first time. The odds-on favourite Passato was happy to lead the remainder tracking the leader. Halfway down the back straight the front two were well ahead and the jolly soon had the lead. Three out the favourite still had about six lengths on his rivals with Tavalu emerging as the only threat. When they emerged from the gloom approaching the last it was to see Tavalu taking the lead and putting in a great jump at the last to end the contest. Tavalu came home the five length winner, with Passato coming home 23 lengths ahead of the remainder, headed by Cherryficial.
14:35 Unless the visibility improves the reports this afternoon are going to be somewhat vague as the visibility is terrible and the runners are out of sight for most of the contest. Vic’s World was the leader in the early stages and was leading as they left the back straight, with the favourite Lindy Lou on her heels. However when they re-appeared approaching the last it was all change and Je Ne Sais Plus was miles clear of the remainder. Sparkling Montjeu was second and a photograph was required for third place with Chilla Cilla just edging out the very disappointing odds-on favourite.
13:51 The mist keeps turning into fog and clearing - could be a fun afternoon. Let's hope commentator Lee McKenzie has plenty of fillers. 13:06 Good afternoon from a very dreak Exeter, misty and drizzle in the air. The going is good to firm, firm in places Our selections are as follows:-
