21:12 That's it from Epsom where the rain is starting again and I'm going to enjoy the Beach Boys 21:09 A nice battle to the line in the finale with Baldemar getting the better of a battle with a battling Perfect Pastime to record a half length victory. Aye Aye Digby took third place, two lengths further back. 20:59 Our final contest is the totepool A Better Way To Bet Handicap over six furlongs with eight going to post. 20:41 Something of a facile victory for the favourite Troopingthecolour as he comes home a 3 1/4 length winner. Hermes set the pace until running out of gas three out. Avon River challenged briefly but had to settle for second spot. Last year's winner Lang Shining was never in contention. 20:34 Have just found out the Beach Boys performance here this evening is their only UK gig 20:32 Race five is back to 1m 2f as four go to post for the Brothers Strawberry Cider Claiming Stakes. 20:03 Silvestre De Sousa has been in good form this week but he seemingly has not twigged you need to be hard against the stands rail to win here this evening. J-P Guillambert had realised that as he positioned Salient next to the stands rail managing to come home a length clear of De Sousa on the favourite Crown Counsel. Salient made all and having the lead helped him achieve pole position. Yound Dottie was in a challenging position in the home straight but being three off the rail did little to help her cause and she had to settle for fourth spot as Inef took third place. 19:47 Race four is the totepool Flexi Betting Handicap over the extended mile with seven going to post. Kentish is slightly on his toes. Tound Dottie is pulling slightly. Not sure if horses get hay fever but Crown Counsel is sneezing like a goodun. Salient was nice and relaxed. 19:35 Mister Angry was pulling hard in front and led until three out as they again came across to the stands rail and three out Mister Angry was hard driven. Dancing Storm managed to grab the stands rail, which gave her a clear run for home, chased by Ramona Chase and New Code, the trio well clear of the remainder. 19:17 After the first race young Toby Atkinson kopped the flak and picked up a three day ban for starting the interference. 19:25 Onto the Derby course for the next as six line up for the Merland Rise Handicap over the 1m 4m course. Dancing Storm was very much on her toes. Mister Angry must be so as he was swishing his tail. 18:55 Pro jockeys in this race and no scrimmaging as Bayleyf makes all to take the six furlong contest. Market rival Esentepe looked to be the big danger two out but was unable to pass the winner and was, himself, headed by Chapter Seven on the line. 18:43 Race two is the Juniper Hill Maiden Auction Stakes over six furlongs with 11 due to go to post. Bayleyf was a bit jig-joggy. Quite a few small, squat runners in this race most notably Stag Hill. Not original but Esentepe looked best. 18:26 As expected the runners came to the stands rail but it was messy with a lot of scrimmaging. It was also interesting to note the ground was really kicking up. Megalala was leading the field along with Very Well Red until they lined up for home. Hawaana was well beaten-up in the scrimmaging, which made it all the more amazing that he went on to win. It was a cracking finish with a four way go for the line with Hawaana getting home half a length clear. Potentiale was another hitting no luck in running but managed to come home second, with Miss Bounty a head back in third. Recalcitrant took advantage of missing the scrimmaging to lead two out but was on the worse ground and paid the price. 18:19 There is a very strong cross wind, from the left relative to the home straight. 18:14 I hate the M25 with a vengeance. Our opener is the 1m 2f Brothers Pear Cider Apprenticed Handicap with nine going to post. Effigy and Miss Bounty were both on their toes from my very brief paddock inspection. 18:04 Good evening from an overcast Epsom 15:02 Some wag has said it would be more appropriate if Wet Wet Wet were performing after racing this evening - instead we have The Beach Boys having to face some very un-Californian weather - I'm looking forward to the concert though, one of those rare occasions when I intend staying after racing to watch the concert. 14:48 Further rain, 21mm had now fallen today - that's almost an inch in real measurements, it means the official going is now Good to Soft, Soft in places. 12:31 The running rail is dolled out up to 4 yards from 1m to winning post, adding approximately 6 yards to race distances. 12:26 There has been 11mm of rain this morning and there is a significant going change where it is now Good, Good to Soft in places. There are, currently, four non-runners. 07:59 It has been a dry night at Epsom although a showery day is forecast. The official going is Good, Good to Firm in places.
