17:20 That's it from a bitterly cold Beverley although I don't think the cold will worry the football fans here who look set to party into the night.

From Beverley good evening.

17:10 The biggest cheer of the afternoon came just before the race when it was announced that local team Hull had won promotion to the Premier League.

There was a kafuffle in the stalls before this ladies race. Cragg Vale Lady would not go into stall one and was ultimately withdrawn. However the antics upset joint favourite Rising Force in the adjacent stall who then tried to get out under his stall.

It is open to debate that Rising Force should have been withdrawn as it was clear his backers wouldn’t get a decent run for their money.

Once off The Plainsman set a decent pace followed by Tizzy May. However others were lurking, especially the other joint favourite Active Asset under Amy Ryan, the rider on a high after winning a similar race at Salisbury on Thursday.

Hitting the front inside the furlong marker she never looked to be in any danger winning by seven lengths from Tizzy May.

16:40 Just one race left which is just as well as I feel like an iceberg at the moment. The cold wind has certainly quietened down the revellers who were in good voice earlier on.

16:30 The longest race of the day over 2 miles and unusually for a race of this distance we had a pillar to post victor in the shape of Mister Arjay, ridden by Tony Hamilton for Brian Ellison.

Indeed for most of the race it wasn’t actually a race at all as once they settled down after a furlong they were in single file until the final stages.

It wasn’t until the final furlong that there was any change to the order at which point El Dececy launched a short lived challenge and the favourite Mr Crystal launched a more sustained challenge, however Mister Ajay had the measure of his rivals and held on by 1¾ lengths.

16:00 The big race of the afternoon certainly proved to be an eventful one with a cracking tactical battle between those who did take part.

I say those who take part because Fathey refused to enter the stalls and being the 4/1 third favourite this resulted in a 20p rule four.

Of those who did race Moon Warrior may as well have stayed at home as he was behind and under pressure from the start and finished well tailed off.

Desert Falls set a good pace right from the start but was closely followed by Red Cell, the favourite Able Master and Kingswinford.

The action really took off inside the furlong as both Able Master and Kingswinford both launched challengers either side of the leader and fought a good battle to the line with the favourite holding on by a head.

I have to say I found Cathy Gannon on the runner up slightly disappointing as she seemed to spend more time in the run in looking across at her rival, rather than concentrating on the job in hand.

15:30 A race where the entire complexion of the race changed inside the final furlong and another race where the punters got it wrong.

This time it was Billy One Punch who drifted from favouritism whilst Myfrenchconnection was backed the other way.

For a while it looked as though the gamble was going to pay off as Myfrenchconnection took up the running two furlongs out having shared the early pace with Moto.

Approaching a furlong out it appeared none of the others were that willing to mount a challenge.

Then the race proper started as both Billy One Punch and Shotley Mac came out of the pursuing pack to set up a decent finish with the deposed favourite getting the better of Shotley Mac with the favourite only managing third.

15:00 And a race where the betting got it wrong. Utmost Respect was backed from 100/30 into 5/2 favouritism, whilst the bottom weight Look Busy drifted from an opening 11/4 out to 100/30.

It was the latter, receiving weight from all her rivals who prevailed by 2½ lengths, although jockey Frankie McDonald had to get busy to get the filly in front. Once in front, however, she never looked to be in any danger.

The pace was set my Something who grabbed the favoured far rail when Not My Choice missed the break. However towards the end she was showing signs of tiring and was nabbed on the line by Aegean Dancer who was running on under Royston Ffrench.

14:40 The sun has now gone in and it feels more like a March afternoon than a May one

14:30 Only four went to post in this extended seven furlong heat.

Mujood was sent off the uneasy 11/8 favourite, having opened up at 6/5.

Come the race they were soon running in Indian file with Stonehaugh under Royston Ffrench setting the pace, pursued by the favourite, Flying Bantam and Froissee.

Actually  to say set the pace is probably an exaggeration as the pace wasn’t that hot.

Just over a furlong out it looked as though the front running tactics may well have paid off as the favourite was under pressure and being challenged for second place by Flying Bantam.

Richard Mullen had to work very hard on the favourite and he only managed to get his head in front in the dying strides.

Flying Bantam was unable to put in any extra and only finished third, whilst Froissee was always last.

14:00 An eventful start to the first race as Darnnstormy reared up in the stalls trapping his legs on the side. No surprise that the runner was subsequently withdrawn.

The race itself produced an impressive winner in the shape of Officer Mor, who took up the running after two furlongs and never looked in any danger of defeat, once again demonstrating the benefit of experience.

Newcomers filled the minor places going to Secret Venue and Captain Scooby respectively.

The winners effort was all the more impressive considering he jinked left coming out of the stalls.

13:05 Good afternoon from Beverley where the sun is out but we have a chill wind. Just under an hour to the first race and it looks as though we will have a good size crowd.

Three non-runners so far, as usual details on the right. The only significant one for betting purposes is in the 4:25 where we now have only seven runners do each way betting will be on the first two only.
