08:02 It has been a dry night and a dry day is forecast, the going remains Firm. We will bring you the going stick reading as soon as it is available.
The fields are disappointingly small and the action gets underway at 17:20 and there are currently no non-runners.
16:26 Good afternoon from Bath, where we have broken cloud and very small fields.
We currently have one non-runner, details on the right.
We still do not have a current going stick reading.
16:48 Another non-runner.
It looks as though punters are not too impressed with this evenings offering - half an hour to the firts race and the place is almost deserted.
17:16 Our opening contest is the Bathwick Tyres Apprentice Handicap, an extended 1m 3f contest.
Just the four line up and all looked OK in the parade ring although Dane Cottage was gnashing his teeth and Raktiman wasn’t too keen to let rider Sonia Eaton climb on board.
17:32 Only four runners but an incident packed race.
Sonia Eaton set the pace on Raktiman leading, with The Starboard Bow and Affirmable running next and Dane Cottage in rear.
The drama came after three furlongs when Dane Cottage’s saddle slipped and rider Kevin Lundle found himself in a very uncomfortable position, half way up the horses neck.
Dane’s Cottage was out of control and soon pulled clear of his rivals with young Lundle doing his best not to fall off.
There was no change in the order behind.
Turning for home Dane’s Cottage was a good ten lengths clear, although he was not going to win with his rider attempting to pull him up.
Eventually he did ease down and his three rivals soon passed him.
Raktiman still had the lead but was being challenged by The Starboard Bow, who came upsides but was unable to lead.
Eventually Raktiman held on by a neck.
17:42 Race two is the Bathwick Tyres Bristol Maiden Auction Fillies’ Stakes, an extended five furlong contest with six going to post.
One negative from the parade ring is Golden Tempest, on her toes and getting warm.
18:03 Miss Sinatra who finished seventh behind Golden Tempest (third) first time out, was well supported to reverse placings today and the market was spot on.
Martin Dwyer sent the favourite to the front as soon as the gates opened.
Golden tempest set off in pursuit but was running very green at times, disappointing considering this was her third race, then again she was in a lather in the parade ring.
Deliria was much more settled in third, followed by Shutupandrive, Hi Note and Libertia.
Two out Dwyer kicked Miss Sinatra on and he soon pulled three or four clear. Golden Tempest was unable to respond but Andrew Heffernan asked Delira for an effort and she responded nicely, showing a good turn of foot. However she was unable to make any inroads on Miss Sinatra’s lead.
Inside the final half furlong Martin Dwyer eased Miss Sinatra and she came home 2½ lengths clear of Delira, who will surely pick up a race at some time in the future.
Golden Tempest was a further two lengths back in third.
18:16 Race three is our shortest race of the night, the five furlong, European Breeders’ Fund & Bathwick Tyres Chippenham Fillies’ Handicap, with just four runners, Ask jenny being the non-runner.
Night Affair was mounted on the course and tried to buck Martin Dwyer off when he mounted. Our Piccadilly was another none too keen to go to post.
18:30 It has to be said a very dire contest.
There was no runner dominating the race. The favourite Ocean Blaze led briefly before Bathwick Xaara took up the running.
Night Affair was in third and Our Piccadilly, who needs to be covered up, was in rear.
Two out Chris Catlin moved Our Piccadilly out to make her run but Martin Dwyer on Night Affair managed to get first run.
Our Piccadilly was running on, slowly, for pressure as was Ocean Blaze and Bathwick Xaara was the first one beaten.
Night Affair getting first run garnered the benefit and he held on by half a length to give Chris Catlin a quick fire double.
It was close for second place with Our Piccadilly getting a head call over Ocean Blaze.
Bathwick Xaara came home five lengths further back.
18:36 From our shortest race of the night we come to our longest, the 2m 1f Bathwick Tyres Cardiff Handicap.
We have five going to post, with Josephine Malines the non-runner.
19:08 This marathon contest turned out to be a tactical affair.
Iron Man Of Mersey was the pacesetter but clearly too fast for his rivals as he was allowed an easy lead.
Behind there was some shuffling but basically Nation State let the chasers for most of the contest with the others taking turns in the various positions.
The race proper came as they turned for home and Iron Man Of Mersey came back to the field, no surprise he eventually came home last.
Approaching two out Le Corvee and Mutadarrej went for home with The Composer attempting, in vain, to make it a three way go.
Le Corvee had a narrow lead approaching a furlong out but then Ryan Powell kicked the favourite on and Mutadarrej came home two lengths clear.
The Composer did rally slightly to deny Le Corvee the runners-up spot.
The other two were over twenty lengths behind.
19:24 Half the distance for our next race, the one mile Bathwick Tyres Newport Handicap (have you spotted the trend with the race names tonight?)
Five go to post for the £2,202 first prize.
Michaels Nook was slightly on his toes and Osgood had a “moment” when he tried to shy away from the path.
19:42 They set off a good pace in this mile contest with the favourite Sir Bruno setting out to make all at a reasonable pace.
Purple Gallery followed the leader, with Michael’s Nook, Southern Cape and Osgood following.
Inside the two furlong marker Ryan Powell asked Purple Gallery for an effort and he eased in front of Sir Bruno who was under pressure. The pair were soon two clear of Osgood and Southern Cape looked all at sea in rear.
A furlong out Purple Gallery opened up a clear lead and the one paced favourite was unable to respond.
Meanwhile the penny finally dropped for Southern Cape and he was motoring inside the final furlong.
His challenge came too late as Purple Gallery had flown, giving Ryan Powell a double and a two length victory.
Southern Cape managed to run on into second spot and the one paced favourite came home third.
19:58 Our second mile contest and our biggest field of the night as nine go to post for the Bathwick Tyres Swindon Handicap.
Nothing really to report from the parade ring, a slight negative for Lady Hetherington who was slightly on her toes.
20:15 A big gamble for the Barney Curley runner Securitisation, however that does come with a health warning in that the market here tonight is very weak.
Gee Major, displaced as favourite, set out to make all and he successfully held off all comers, including Belle Park who fought the leader all the way to the line and eventually finishing half a length in arrears.
Cuckoo Rock came home third, 4½ lengths behind the front pair with Ayam Zainah fourth.
The gamble came home in fifth place.
20:38 We conclude with a 1m 5f contest with only four competing for the Bathwick Tyres Bridgend Fillies’ Handicap.
Absolutely nothing to report from the parade ring.
20:46 Where’s Susie and Chincoteague were sent off the 6/4 joint favourites and fittingly the duo fought out the finish in a disappointing contest.
Chincoteague set out to make all but Where’s Susie made her move two out and although she hit the front, Chincoteague was not going to go down without a fight.
However Where’s Susie eventually prevailed by half a length.
The other pair were way back with Dovedon Anglel ten lengths back and Behest another nine in arrears.
No photo of the winner as it was too dark.
20:49 That’s it from a rather disappointing evenings racing at Bath, small fields and a very small crowd.
Our next meeting will have a huge crowd as we are at Ascot for the Shergar Cup on Saturday
From a very quiet Bath …. goodnight
