15:55 That’s it from Bangor this afternoon. Not the greatest afternoons racing in terms of quality.
Pick of the afternoon must be the Peddlers Cross, closely followed by Acknowledgement both of whom were wide margin winners.
Tomorrow, weather permitting, we will be at Ludlow, or if Ludlow should be off we will be atSouthwell.
From Bangor good night.
15:48 A really muddling bumper with the runners finishing as if they had run a four mile contest in the mud, they were almost treading water.
It also resulted in a messy finish with several in with chances in the home straight, including some late runners.
The favourite Willie Hall looked to be best of all as they came out of the back straight but turning for home he suddenly started treading water.
The pedestrian pace in the home straight meant a running on runner would have every chance and so it happened.
Life Long ran on best of all, having dropped back, but rallied to take the spoils by half a length.
The Ferbane Man was leading and was the one to lose out to LIfe Long's late charge.
It was a close call for third with the verdict going to 100/1 outsider Just Jennings, who made good progress from almost last.
To be honest a race to ignore.
15:22 Our final contest is the Happy Christmas Intermediate Open NH Flat Race over 2m 1f.
15:17 One of the worse things a trainer or jockey can do is take the michael out of the handicapper.
It happened as Acknowedgement won our sixth contest coming home an unchallenged 17 length winner.
Trainer Ian Williams says the gelding has had plenty of problems so the win was well deserved and the horse was well backed this afternoon. He is bound to take a hike in the weights on this afternoons performance.
It was a three way go for the lead in the early stages with Bouncing King, Midnight Diamond and Caliban, with each of them having a turn in front. However as they entered the back straight for the final time Caliban was stone last.
Bouncing King was clear leader with Midnight Diamondin pursuit as the ran down the back straight.
Both the favourite French Leave and Acknowledgement made steady progress to challenge, although the favourite turned out to flatter to deceive.
Three out Bouncing King had been joined by Acknowledgement but as they turned for home Michael Murphy kicked-on on the bottom weight and it was race over.
The biggest battle was for second and Heridas made eye catching late progress to take second spot from the front running Bouncing King.
Jeanry was another doing best in the closing stages and he grabbed fourth, relegating the one paced favourite to fifth.
14:48 13 face the starter in the 2m 1f DTM Legal Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle.
No positives in the parade ring – the only filly in the field, Guydus, is pulling really hard.
14:42 Magnifico was sent off the favourite in the three mile contest and set out to make all, although Victory Parade was challenging for the lead as well.
As they completed the first circuit Magnifico suddenly went into reverse and the sound of ripped betting slips prevailed.
As Magnifico dropped out Minella Boys ran on to challenge Victory Parade in front.
Sphinx was settled last before making progress and good progress it was, eventually joining the front pair.
Coming to the last Minella Boys had a narrow lead but Sphinx looked to be running best of all.
However Minella Boys took the run in best of all as Paddy Brennan asked for a final effort and they came home three clear. The front running Victory Parade held on for third,
14:11 Next up is our feature and longest contest of the day the three mile Manmor Technologies Handicap Hurdle.
Nine face the starter and no positives or negatives in the parade ring.
14:00 Well this was a facile win for Donald McCain’s Peddlers Cross who won the contest by an eased 21 lengths never looking in any danger.
Jason Maguire settled nearer last than first in the early exchanges, where the pace was set by Alpha Way and Simbamead.
As they began the final circuit Maguire made steady progress until he was upsides Alpha Way three out.
As they turned for home Maguire allowed Peddlers Cross to run on and it was race over, he was in a different class to his rivals.
Alverstone was the well backed second favourite but the mare was as green as the Emerald Isle, she may have been good in her bumpers, she was not so impressive over obstacles. She came home a flattered third.
More impressive was Flash Harriet who belied her 33/1 odds to come home second.
13:37 It is starting to precipitate – not sure if it is rain, sleet or a combination of the two.
Race four is Division Two of the 2m 1f Malbern Windows “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle.
Ten face the starter and a couple of negatives Glebehall Bay is pulling hard with his two handlers. Ruttan Lake is a serious head shaker as is Very Stylish to a lesser extent.
13:28 We seem to have a pattern developing here.
Two runners in contention as they turn for home and the winner pulling clear in the run-in.
This time the pair were Herons Well and Iconoclast and it was the Alex Hales trained Iconoclast, a big beast, who came out on top.
Denis O’Regan kept the winner settled in rear in the early stages before making progress as they came down the far side for the final time.
Herons Well, by contrast had been to the fore throughout, sharing the lead with It’s A Discovery.
Cybergenic joined in up front as they went out on the final circuit but began to drop back through the field not long after. Indeed he dropped back so quickly Stratford Stroller ran into the back of him at the seventh flight.
The favourite Berwick Law looked a challenger as they turned out of the back straight but was another who flattered to deceive, quickly dropping out, although he did manage to come home third, albeit 12 lengths behind the front pair.
13:03 Race three is the Premier Wealth Handicap Hurdle over 2m 4f in which 11 go to post.
Iconoclast is a huge animal. River Logic sneezing as if he has hay fever, Lukie Victor is a head shaker and Baaher is slightly on his toes.
12:58 Early drama in the second contest as Dubai Creek who took a very strong hold from the start and at the third and took a fall after not really taking off.
This left King’s Counsel a clear leader as they went out on the final circuit.
By three out the field had closed up, with the exception of Valentine Bay, who was well tailed off.
Turning for home King’s Counsel had run its race.
After two out it became a two horse race with Al Qeddaaf, who had made good progress in the final mile, having a slight advantage over favourite Bothy.
After the final flight it was race over as Keith Mercer drove Bothy clear to win on his jumping debut.
As in the opener the field were well spread out in this soft going.
12:34 Nine go to post for the 2m 1f Jig Architectural Ltd Juvenile Maiden Hurdle.
No real standouts or negatives or standouts in the parade ring, although it has to be said Lively Fling is a big horse, looking more like a chaser.
12:29 Favourite Black Jack Blues set out to virtually make all and turning for home he looked to be the best in the field although Nicky Henderson’s hurdling debutant Zazamix was pressing hard and the favourite could not shake him off.
Indeed they were locked together at the second last and even at the last they were still locked together.
Even more of a shock for favourite backers was that Zazamix had the better turn of foot on the run-in, coming home the three length winner.
Miss Vertical came home third and the front three were well clear of the remainder.
Black Apache was to the fore in the early exchanges but dropped out turning for home.
Rocky Lane was most disappointing and never in the race.
11:57 An all hurdle card this afternoon and our opener is the 2m 1f Malbern Windows “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle (Div 1) in which 11 face the starter.
