Racing Live - Bangor-on-Dee 21st March 2009

17:51 That's it from Bangor, somewhat modest fare, on an afternoon that began spring like and finished with a winter chill.

Our next racing will be at Kempton on Monday, until then good evening.

17:49 A bumper to finish proceedings and very little happened in all honesty.

It was something of a Noah’s Ark contest with the field running two-by-two for most of the contest.
Wymott and Nick The Dreamer were the first pair, followed by Honourable Arthur (who took a strong hold early on) and Paddy The Pirate, then Holy Balloney and Voramar Tow with Kaycee the whipper in.

Very little changed until the home straight where Nick The Dreamer dropped out and Paddy The Pirate and Vormar Two both ran on, the latter making a better fist of it but never getting close to Wymott who won easily by 3¾ lengths.

17:16 A 2m 1½f chase for our final contest over obstacles here at Bangor and another result for favourite backers.

Colliers Court and Littleton Aldor were the early pacesetters although the latter had a tendency to jump right and after the fifth began going backwards.

This left Colliers Court in front but not for long as, come the seventh the favourite First Boy was in the lead and, once in front, never looked to be in any danger at all and Sue Smith’s runner came home six lengths clear.

Log On Intersky who tracked the leaders took second place.

The best battle was for third place where Mad Professor just held off a late challenge from Gus, who looked out of it turning for home.

16:50 We have just had the crowd figures here and there are 4,000, which the course are pleased with. Bearing in mind there is racing at Haydock and the Rugby Internationals.

16:47 A 3m hurdle for our feature race of the afternoon, in which hat-trick seeking I’m A Decider was sent off the 11/4 favourite.

The favourite never looked like winning and came home a never nearer fifth, looking none to impressive at all.

There was no clear leader in this contest and the lead was shared by Ice Tea, Freeze The Flame and Laertes. However unlike our previous hurdles there were no front running winner as the pace setters dropped out of contention one at a time.

By the time they turned for home Distiller had the lead along with Gerogian King with Great Approach in the Ogden colours making eye catching progress under 3ld claimer Ferghal Davis.

At the second last Distiller had a clear lead and Georgian King was about to be headed by Great Approach.

Coming to the last Great Approach was alongside Distiller and put in the better jump and then ran-on up the run-in to record a length victory.

Rathcor emerged from the bunch to take third.

16:13 A 2m 4f chase for our fourth contest in which we had three non-runners.

Like the remainder of the races here this afternoon the racing was not of the highest quality and there were several mistakes by many of the runners.

Wee Forbees and Our jasper set off in front and looked set to make all until Wee Forbees blundered at the final open ditch and Brian Harding did well to keep the partnership intact. This left Our Jasper in front on his own,

However Ordre De Bataille was making eye catching progress and soon joined the leader.

Turning for home together there was nothing between them until the final fence when Andrew
Tinkler produced Ordre De Bataille with a perfect jump and ran on to record a 1¼ length victory.

Nirvana Swing ran on very well in the closing stages, although he only managed to get within 13 lengths of the first pair.

The favourite, Storm Of Applause, tracked the front pair but faded in the latter stages.

15:30
A weather  update for you it is clouding over and the temperature in plummeting.

15:36 Only five runners in our third contest, a 3m 110yd Beginners Chase.

The good news is all five completed, although Bakers Girl, making her debut over the larger obstacles completed the course in her own time.

Osolomio and the favourite That’s Rhythm set the pace and jumped round together with there never being a length between them before the closing stages.

Calusa Caldera, with Richard Johnson looking for a quick fire double, settled in third with Caramia tracking the first three.

The race developed turning for home when That’s Rhythm was allowed to run on and it was a case of race over.

Osolomio tried to keep in touch but was tired and it was Calusa Caldera who ran on to take second place but the leader was never in any danger.

Osolomio did rally in the closing staged but Calusa Caldera held on by a head for the runners-up spot.

The winner is heading for the Scottish Grand National meeting, hopefully for the National if he gets in.

15:03 Another 2m 1f hurdle for our second contest and, once again, we saw a bold front running performance, this time from the favourite Calusa Crystal.

Well to be totally honest he shared the front running with Tigger in the early stages.

In the final stages it was Frontier Dancer who became the challenger and David England on Frontier Dancer really made Richard Johnson earn his money on the winner, coming within 1¼ lengths of the winner.

The front pair came home 17 lengths ahead of their rivals, who were led by The Panama Kid.

The race was run at a fair pace and the field were well strung out, even after a couple of furlongs.

Alderley Rover was putting in his best work in the final stages to come home in fourth place.

14:27 Peaceful Means was fourth at Ludlow two days ago, today he went four better in taking the opening 2m 1f Claiming Hurdle, putting in a front running performance to hold off the late challenge of the favourite Dee Cee Elle.

Villochely tracked the leader throughout and came home for a deserved third place.
Ricci De Mare was with the pace in the early stages but faded out of contention as they turned for home.

Sherbert Lemon was another with the pace and came home in sixth place.

Santera was held up and showed late progress to finish fourth, whilst the well backed Lilac was another putting in the better performance in the final stages, until blundering at the final fence.

Hill Of Clare fell at the second flight and Quoquille Des Sacart was pulled up before the third.

13:39 Although the sun is out there is also a brisk breeze, which will be behind the runners in the home straight.
