| Burke Ban Stays Pending Appeal |

The BHA have turned down a request from trainer Karl Burke to delay implementing his one year ban pending an appeal againt the sentence he received from the disciplinary panel last week. His appeal will be heard on 17th August and the ban will come into force tomorrow (29th July) |

In a super patient ride jockey Richard Hughes passed all ten of his rivals in a scintillating last to first run. Dandy Nicholls Mister Manannan who hit the front two out had no response when passed by the winner, with Mick Channon's Archers Road back in third. |

Finjaan was bought with a well timed late run by Tadgh O'Shea to record a half length victory over Balthazaar's Gift, with Regal Parade back in third. The well backed favourite, Main Aim and South African raider J J The Jet Plane filled the last two places. Ryan Moore reported Main Aim had hit his head as the runners left the stalls. |

Once asked for an effort by Ryan Moore he was soon clear, holding off a late challenge from Firebet. Urban Poet, running only his second race, was a creditable third. Ryan Moore said, "The race was very stop start, it was a very messy race, but he never really lost his rhythm and he travelled there very sweetly. "I was in front soon enough, but he's a very relaxed horse and I was very pleased with him today. "He shows a lot of speed so I don't know about the Leg er, we'll see what the boss says." Bookmakers are taking no chances, with Sky Bet and Victor Chandler making the colt 3/1 favourite for the final classic of the season. |
| Stoute Sweeps The Board in King George |

In a great day at the office Sir Michael Stoute trained the first three home in the £1,000,000 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. In a race where a Ballydoyle runner set the pace the three Stoute contenders settled mid-division. It was in the home straight the three runners challenged, Ask was first but he was soon joined by Tartab Bearer and Conduit. The latter, under Ryan Moore, ran on best of all to record a 1¾ length victory. Tartan Bearer just held off a renewed challenge from Ask to take the runners-up spot. The winner did drift across and interfere with the runner-up but the stewards allowed the result to stand. |
| Curragh To Honour O'Brien |

The contest, to be called The Vincent O'Brien National Stakes, due to be staged on 12th September, was a contest he won no less than 15 times, most notably with Sir Ivor, Roberto, Storm Bird and El Gran Senor amongst others. There will be an exhibition and tributes to the trainer at the meeting. O'Brien's widow, Jacqueline, said “Vincent enjoyed some of his greatest successes at the Curragh. The National Stakes was always a race held in high esteem by him as a target for his top 2 year olds. The family are delighted that the racecourse will honour his memory in this way and I know Vincent would have been very proud to have his name associated with this race.” |
| Increased Fixtures in 2010 |

Britain's newest course, Ffos Las, wil stage 28 fixtures, including three Saturday meetings and a three day festival in August. The floodlit courses at Kempton and Wolverhampton both have a significant increase in fixtures, following on from the demise of Great Leighs, picking up 25 and 15 extra fixtures respectively. Biggest losers are Worcester and Folkestone who have lost three and two meetings each. |

Party Politics, winner of the 1992 Grand National has been put down at the age of 25, he was suffering from the infirmity of old age. The appropriately named gelding won the National five days before the General Election. He was denied the chance of winning back to back Nationals when the 1993 contest was declared vioid. |
| Twelve Month Disqualification For Burke |

Trainer Karl Burke has been disqualified from racing for 12 months following a BHA disciplinary hearing. He was charged with associating with and supplying inside information to Miles Rogers, who had previously been disqualified from the sport. Burke initially denied the charges but later admitted them at the subsequent hearing. Implementation of the ban has been deferred for one week to allow Burke time to appeal (which he has indicated he will do) and to discuss some dispensation in order to save the jobs of his 35 employees. At the same hearing Miles Rogers was warned off for life, with him being unable to apply for the ban to be lifted after a minimum of ten years. The panel said he had "wreaked havoc with the sport". On Monday evening solicitors for Burke confirmed he is to launch an appeal against the disqualification. |

Following on from his one year voluntary one year exile from UK racing following a recent disciplinary hearing, disgraced jockey Fergal Lynch has received a one year riding ban from Philadelphia Park, where he is currently champion jockey. |

Trainer Richard Hannon took the Wetherbys Super Sprint for the seventh time at Newbury as the 2/1 favourite Monsieur Chevalier took the feature contest. Held up by Richard Hughes he came with a rattling late run to deny Shamanda in the dying strides. |

| Ayr To Stage All Sprint Card |

Monday's meeting at Ayr is to be an all sprint card following the incident on the home bend on Monday. Officials from the BHA course inspectorate visited the track on Tuesday and made the decision in conjunction with the course executive. Iain Ferguson, head of public relations at Ayr said, "This leaves us three weeks until our next meeting on August 8 which gives us time to have the bend surveyed to see if it needs to be realigned. |

Not for the first time rain falling on firm ground has resulted in dangerous ground at Ayr. In the three o'clock contest Balwearie slipped on the home bend bringing down five other runners in the process, another runner unseated its rider independently. All horses escaped unscathed however jockey Joe Fanning broke his collar-bone and now faces a spell on the sidelines. Following the incident a deputation of officials, trainers and jockeys inspected the home bend and racing was subsequently Cancelled due to unsafe ground. |

Michael Bell's Sariska completed an English / Irish Oaks double when taking the Irish version in a facile fashion at the Curragh on Sunday. At Epsom she was involved in a tight battle with Henry Cecil's Midday, today Midday was a well beaten third on palpably unsuitable ground. Long time leader Roses For The Lady came home second. The Yorkshire Oaks is the next possible target for Sariska, whilst the trainer has not ruled out a tilt at the Arc. |

Great Leighs remaining fixtures for 2009 have been auctioned off. All the remaining fixtures have been auctioned to other all weather courses, with the exception of the meeting on 5th November for which there was no bidder. |
| Takeover Target Undergoes Surgery |

The future of Australian superstar Takeover Target hangs in the balance this evening after he undergoes surgery for a cracked canon bone. He finished seventh in the July Cup and the injury to his near hind was only noticed afterwards. Update The surgery went well and a plate has been inserted. He will have box rest for about 12 weeks before going into quarantine and returning home. Needless to say he has now been retired. |

Hayley Turner has had her licence to ride reinstatedfollowing a BHA review. Her licence had been suspended for a year, on medical grounds, after suffering a head injury following a fall on the gallops in March. Turner contested the length of the suspension. BHA spokesman Paul Struthers said, "Following a hearing of the medical review panel, having heard the latest medical reports, they have recommended that Hayley Turner be granted a licence." "Hayley Turner will free to ride from tomorrow." |

Racing at Uttoxeter was Cancelled on Tuesday evening after heavy rain made it impossible for the ambulances to follow racing. Initially it was announced racing would be delayed by 30 minutes and the skies cleared to leave bright sunshine. however an ambulance got stuck in the mud and racing was eventually abandonmentan hour after the original start time of 6.50pm. |

Sea The Stars joined racing elite in winning the 2000 Guineas, Derby and Coral Eclipse Stakes. Coming home the 4/7 winner he hit the front under Mick Kinane with Rip Van Winkle looking to be the serious challenger. However when Jimmy Fortune asked Rip Van Winkle for an effort he cocked his jaw and would not run on, giving the John Oxx star his place in history. St Leger winner Conduit came home third, over a distance probably too short nowadays. |

Trainer Nicky Henderson has been banned from having runners for three months and fined £40,000 by the BHA after traces of a banned anti-bleeding drug was found in the blood of a runner he trained for The Queen. |

Curragh racecourse are to rename the National Stakes in honour of the master trainer Vincent O'Brien, who passed away in June.
The BHA have published the 2010 fixture list which has 1,503 fixtures, 13 more than in 2009.
