Thursday, 25 June, 2009

Trainer James Fanshaw is aiming for a fourth success in the one mile Falmouth Stakes on the opening day of Newmarket's July meeting.

“She was second in the 1000 Guineas last year and I think that took a lot out of her. What everyone hopes is that she benefits from having won. She was very game at Ascot and she seems to have come out of the race fine.

“She does prefer a galloping track and her second in the Guineas suggests that the July Course will be fine for her. She’s won on soft and good to firm, she just doesn’t want extremes of going.”

Wetherby's meeting on Thursday evening has been Cancelled.

The problems began when the watering system failed on Tuesday. Although eventually repaired there was insufficient time to get the track into a safe condition.

Speaking after the decision to abandon, the clerk of the course Jonjo Sanderson said, "Although it improved marginally today we all felt it wasn't going to improve sufficiently by tomorrow as we would just have maintained what he have achieved today,

"There are certain priorities the British Horseracing Authority lay down for summer jumping. We didn't feel we were able to achieve those in the time we had left before tomorrow night's meeting.

"The safety of horses and jockeys is paramount above everything else and as such we have decided to abandon."
