Course Review - Beverley

Beverley Map

Beverley

Summary (for full review click link below)

Situated north of Hull, Beverley races from April to September.

Beverley Plan

Course Characteristics:

Beverley is a flat track 1 mile 3 furlongs round, with a chute providing a extension to the home straight for 5 furlong races. The back straight is downhill and the final 3 furlongs in the home straight are distinctly uphill. The course is right handed (clockwise).

The 5 furlong sprint course is particularly testing and if there are any stamina doubts about a runner then it should be avoided.

Beverley is another of those courses where jockeyship is important and jockeys who have previous form at the course should be considered.

Draw Advantage: In 5f races a high draw is a considerable advantage, with a lesser advantage up to 1m 2f. The one exception being when the going is very testing, in those circumstances there is usually a faster strip of ground on the stands side in which case low drawn horses my be able to counteract the high draw advantage. Having said that in 2008 the course appear to have introduced a somewhat controversial watering policy in an attempt to even out the draw bias.

Admission (2010 prices):

Beverley operates a three enclosure system. The Premier enclosure charges £19 (£22 on Ladies day), the Grandstand enclosure £12 (£14 Ladies day)with seniors / students admitted for £8 and the course enclosure a bargain basement £5 (£3 for seniors).

There is currently a five year waiting list for annual membership, to join the queue please contact the course.

The dress code policy in the Premier Enclosure is ‘Smart–Casual’ – this means no jog bottoms, casual shorts (tailored shorts are acceptable) football/rugby shirts, skimpy tops, or trainers. Smart jeans are acceptable.

Location:

Located 10 miles north of Hull and the Humber bridge, the racecourse is on the western outskirts of the town. From the M62 leave at J38 and take the B1230, from York take the A1076 then the A1035.

Ease of public transport access: Moderate (Rail to Beverley then taxi)
